      Pursuant to the order of last Jun Court, Commission issued to examine witnesses touching the bounds of a tract of land called Thompson (Tomson) Town, lying in CC, in possession of Thomas Gilpin. Commissioners appointed: Henry Hawkins, Saml Hanson Jr, Walter Hanson, and John Hanson Jr (not being any way related to the Petitioner, contiguous Proprietor, nor interested in the sd land).       And now here, Saml Hanson Jr and John Hanson Jr, return to this Court the Commission afd with the following certificate and subsequent deposition:
      We certify that we met on the premises and took the deposition of John Brookes, the only witness to us then Page 518. there produced. Signed Sep 7, 1738 - S. Hanson Jr, Jno Hanson Jr.

The deposition of John Brookes Jr of CC, age about 30, who declares that about 7-8 years ago, he & William Witter, dec'd, were walking along the Main Road that leads by the Plantation where Isaac Gilpin formerly dwelled, when the sd Witter told this deponent that he intended to get a timber tree that stood near the road side. The deponent said that he believed the sd tree belonging to the sd Isaac Gilpin, the sd Witter replied, no, and upon which showed him a bounded poplar standing by a run side at the foot of the hill near the sd Road, and said that was the bound tree of the sd Isaac Gilpin's land, which tree is now down and rotten, but this deponent further says that for some time after the sd tree was down, a sign of the bounds might be seen in the bark.       And now here, Robt: Hanson & Courts Keech, Page 537. return to this Court, the Commission afd, with the following certificate thereon endorsed and the subsequent depositions thereto annexed:
      We certify that we have examined all such witnesses to the bounds of the within mentioned lands as was to us produced. Signed Feb 13, 1738/9 - Robt: Hanson, Courts Keech.
      John Hamill, age about 46, declares that, to the best of his memory, some time in the year 1722, this deponent, at the request of John Chandler, decd, and in company with Thomas Lowery, then a hired servant to Dr. Gustavus Brown, went to look for some outlying hogs, and this deponent further deposes that the sd John Chandler lead him and the sd Lowery to a bounded black walnut tree now standing upon a Gravelly Hill Side standing by the Main Road Side that leads to Portobacco, and told this deponent and the sd Lowery it was the beginning tree of that tract of land called Chandlers Purchase, and this deponent further deposes that the sd Chandler lead him and the sd Lowery to a small bounded white oak standing upon a plain on the north side of a branch that falls into Warrens Branch and told this deponent and the sd Lowery it was a bounded tree or a corner tree of the sd Chandlers Purchase, and this deponent declares that he knows the same tree to be the beginning tree of that tract of land called Deptford, the which tree this deponent now lays his hand on, and this deponent further deposes that the sd Chandler lead him and the sd Lowery to a large bounded white oak standing upon a plain and in the sight of William Witter's old Fields and told them it was the beginning tree of that tract of land called Taverton. And also this deponent deposes that the sd Chandler told him that Isaac Gilpin lead him to the sd white oak and told him it was the outward bound tree of his land whereon he lived, the which tree this deponent now lays his hand on. And this deponent further deposes that the sd Chandler told him that at the request of the sd Gilpin, the sd Chandler surveyed and ran out with a pocket instrument, the out lines of the sd Gilpin's 2 tracts of land by and from the sd white oak, and by and from a red oak not in these writings mentioned, and this deponent declares that the sd Chandler told him that by the sd Gilpin showing him the bounded trees of sd land and by his running the lines afd, the sd Chandler found out the vacant land, and the escheat land that he had secured.
