      I
I believe that I have found some of our Hannah Jackson and Garret Cruson information. A Hannah Jackson and a Garret Cruson were married in Pennsylvania on April 29, 1760.

      II
Garret probably died in August of 1772 because a Provisional Court Inventory was taken on him and signed by Hannah Cruson as Administratrix on August 14, 1772 in Baltimore County, Maryland; the Inventory lists his father , Nicholas Cruson, and his brother, John Cruson, as next of kin; the inventory is listed in Lieber 109, Folio 272; I am waiting for information from the Baltimore County, Maryland Registrar to find out how to make contact with the Maryland archives and determine if a copy of the records is available for purchase. The Registrar only has records back to 1850.

      III
      It appears Hannah’s father was John Jackson b. Dec 10, 1689, d. November 1740, m. Katherine --- abt 1709, Hannah was born March 14, 1733 & had nine siblings.

      1. John, b. August 1710
      2. Samuel, b. January 13, 1713
      3. Margaret, b. February 21, 1719
      4. Julian, b. August 24, 1720
      5. James, b. January 31, 1722
      6. Mary, b. November 14, 1723
      7. Margaret, b. Sept., 17, 1726
      8. Sarah, b. April 3, 1731
      9. Hannah, b. April 14, 1733
      10. James, b. August 18, 1737

John Jackson’s father was Simeon Jackson, b. before 1669, d. February 20, 1696 at The Level, Maryland, m. Elizabeth --- Abt 1689. who came to Baltimore County, Maryland before 1692 . Simeon & Elizabeth had four children.

      1. John , b. December 10, 1689
      2. Simeon, b. Sept., 9, 1691
      3. Judith, b. December 19, 1693
      4. Thomas, b. October 10, 1695

      IV

For Garrett Cruson b. abt. 1735 - 1737 d. abt. August 1772 in Baltimore County, Maryland m. April 29, 1760 in Pennsylvania to Hannah Jackson b. March 14, 1733, d. abt. 1789, they had five children that I know of:

      1. Elizabeth,. b. abt 1764, d. Nov., 6, 1806, m. William Mercer Nov., 16, 1786 in Berkeley County, Virginia (now West Virginia)
(William Mercer became guardian for Garrett& Hannah’s 5th child, Garret Cruson on 15 sep 1789 in Berkeley County, West Virginia)
      2. Mary, b. 1764, d. abt 1791, m. John Vance abt. 1790; they had one child, Joseph Vance b. abt 1791
      3. John , b. Sept 3, 1767 Maryland, d. Sept. 3, 1767 Erie County, Ohio, m. Eleanor Ferrell May 17, 1797 in Big Cove, Monroe County, Virginia (now West Virginia); they had 17 children.
John was married before Eleanor to Choloe Dixon d. 1796 and had a child Mary b. December 1795 d. ? m. Judge Thomas Hurford December 30, 1825 in Canton, Greene County, Ohio and had a child, Thomas Jefferson Hurford b. March 18, 1828 in Stark County, Ohio.

      4. Anna , b. abt 1772 d. ? , m. 1. Dr. Sandums & 2. Burhan. Anna died in the home of her niece, Mary Cruson Hurford.
      5. Garrett, b. 1773 Wheeling, Virginia (after his father passed away), d. 1846 in Millgrove, Ohio, m. Betsy McCormick in 1795; they had five children.

Please keep in mind that the above "seems” right but, it has not been "proven.”

      Subject: Re: Elizabeth Crusan Housh
      Date: Wed, 01 May 2002 15:01:00 -0400

      Dear Linda,

Yes, I know of your Elizabeth Crusan Housh, and I agree with your
assessment, namely that she was most probably the daughter of John and
Elizabeth (--?) Kroesen, and granddaughter of Nicholas Kroesen. I have
done quite a bit of research on all the Croesen/Krewson/Crusan etc.
lines that I have been able to find. Piecing the family connections
together to be sure of the lines of descent is often, of course, the
source of consternation. This is true insofar as Elizabeh Crusan Housh
is concerned; I have not found any uncontrovertably solid proof of
this connection. Nonetheless, I think the circumstanial evidence in
this case is very strong. In particular, the additional information
given in her marriage record may even be conclusive, but I have not
seen the original record to be sure. In the compilation by Annie
Walker Burns entitled Marriages in Mason Co. Kentucky 1788-1851, we
find with the marriage of "John Housh" and "Eliz. Crusan" the
indication "parent John Crusan". However, in another compilation of
Mason Co. KY marriages, found at the DAR Library in Washington, the
indication shows "bondsman John Crusan". I don't know for sure what
the original record said, but if both these reports are correct (which
is altogether possible), then we at least can be sure that Elizabeth's
father was John Crusan. Circumstantial evidence leads us then to
believe that this John Crusan was the son of Nicholas from Bucks Co.
PA and later Harford Co. MD.

Here is what I wrote some years ago, based on the various records I
      could find that were relevant:

"My first record of Elizabeth is her marriage in Mason Co. KY, where
she gives her father's name(?) as John. I assume then, that she was a
sister to Michael, John, and Mary, who were also married in Mason Co.
If so, she was undoubtedly born in Harford Co. MD, although she does
not appear on the 1776 Census with her parents, so I suggest that she
may have been born 1777-78 (the report of her age on the 1850 Census
suggests a birth year of about 1774, but it seems that this must be
off at least by three years). Elizabeth and her husband moved from
Mason Co. KY across the Ohio River to Brown Co. OH, where they spent
the rest of their lives. Elizabeth died after 1850, since she is
listed in the Census for that year, and reports her birthplace as
      Maryland."

I hope that helps. On a related note, does anyone know who was the
Elizabeth who married John Kroesen (i.e. Elizabeth Crusan Housh's
mother)? All I have been able to ascertain thus far is her given name.
I reckon the marriage may have taken place in Bucks County, perhaps in
the Bensalem area (where father Nicholas lived and where John grew
up), but other possible locations for the marriage are Cumberland Co.
      NJ or Harford Co. MD.

      Sincerely,
      Jim Roberts

Does anyone know of an Elizabeth CRUSAN who married John HOUSH in Mason Co. KY i
n 1796? I had thought she was the daughter of John Kroesen (born c.1728 PA), so
n of Nicholas Kroesen and Mary Rowland, but I just saw a 1776 Maryland census of
this family and Elizabeth was not listed. Yet, it seems this same John did live
in Mason Co. KY at the time my Elizabeth married there.

      Linda
