Joseph Dorrosell, age ca 40 years, declared that 15 Jun 1663 he went to Mr. Adams and told him that the doctor John Lumbroso and his maid did lie together and that she was with child ... when I came to the house the said maid went to Richard Trew... and when she came back told me before the doctor and said that I had been abroad and had said that the said doctor and she did lie together and that she was with child wherepon the said Lumbroso called her in and told her that she must take a strong purge to take away her swelling that she had; the maid told me that the physick he gave her did kill the child ... and that the doctor had got the said child .... and that when he had the use of body he would stop her mouth with a cloth and sometimes of his hands and she told me that when the physic did work that the doctor did hold her back for she was in much pain and misery that she thought that she should die; after that it was over she told me that the said Lumbroso looked into the chamberpot and told her that her body was clear and he took the pot and carried it out of the way and she told me that he told her that she should be merry and take no notice for fear of the old man for he was very cunning. /s/ Joseph Dorosell Richard Trew, age ca 58 years, swore on 29 Jun 1663 the doctor came home she sent Joseph to bid me and George Harris to come to the doctor's house for to declare before us how the doctor did abuse her how he took his handkerchief out of his pocket and stop her mouth and take her whether she was willing or not when he knew that she was with child he gave her physic to destroy ... she did declare before me and John Munne and George Harris and the doctor himself .. /s/ Richard Trew (mark); sworn before James Lindsey Anne Trew, age ca 26 years, on 29 Jun 1663 swore the next day she came for a bottle of milk she told me the last physic the doctor gave her came something down as big as her hand from her body and the thought her back break asunder /s/ Anne Trew (mark); sworn before James Lindsey

George Haris, age ca 30 years, examined before Mr. James Lindsey 29 Jun 1663 in a case concerning John Lumbroso and his servant named Elisabeth Wiles. Joseph was beating at the mortar and he asked me if I would not "pipe it" and so with his desire I put in and lighted my pipe and came my ways and before I came to the cow pen the woman called me 2 or 3 times and I came back and asked her what she would have-she told me she would speak with me and so I came into the house and she up and told me that the doctor took her to bed and had laid with her whether she would or no whereof before she could consent to lie with him he took a book in his hand and swore many bitter oaths that he would marry her whereby he had brought her to shame which I never did before /s/ George Harris (mark) before James Lindsey
Elisabeth Weales, age ca 22 years, swore on 29 Jun 1663 ... what I have said concerning John Lumbroso is false for he left me no such things which I reported and for the physic I thought it was 'sak' whereupon I drank a dram of it and gave the others a dram apiece and so I desire he may be cleared from the scandal what was spoken "I did mays of my head one night" I went to Goodman Trews and so there was goodie Rivers and whereupon she asked me how the black man did whereupon this deponent asked what black man.- the black man that lies by your side every night ... I went home and asked Joseph why did he report that I was with child by the dark man and lay with him every night whereupon I went to the room and there I complained of my stomach and about my heart whereupon this deponent desired something of him and after I saw it I was not willing to take it whereupon he replied it will do you some good for it will clear the poison from you whereupon I desire that he may be clear from the scandal /s/ Elisabeth Weale (mark), sworn before James Lindsey

Whereupon the court appointed a jury whose names are: Daniell Johnson, foreman; Robert Taylor, William Heard, William Hall, James Mackey, Francis Batchelor, Richard Dod, John Wheeler, Thomas Hussey, Oils Tomkin, John Tomkinson, John Nevill; unanimous verdict was that by her confession that she was with child by John Lumbroso and that he did give her physic to destroy it
