      "The Harris Family

John Francis Harris, now the oldest living representative of the well-known Harris family, give us the following history of the family in Maryland, which is copied from an old record now in his possession:

About the year 1650 a certain Thomas HARRIS emigrated with his wife and servant man, John HAMLINSTON, from England to America. He had a grant of three hundred acres of land in Maryland, which he took up in the neighborhood of Pickawaxon in William and Mary Parish, Charles County, and which is known by the name of Harris' Land or the Land of Harris, as appears by the patent recorded for the land office of the Western Shore. The said land descended to Thomas HARRIS, son of the aforementioned Thomas HARRIS, who was born February 26, 1683, and who married Martha STANDBURY, daughter of John and Arabella STANDBURY, September 28, 1704. It afterwards descended to John HARRIS, son of the above mentioned Thomas HARRIS and of Martha, his wife, who was born May 25, 1708, and who married Catharine MUSGROVE, daughter of Charles and Catharine MUSGROVE. The land next descended to Thomas HARRIS, son of the above mentioned John and Catharine HARRIS, who was born August 1, 1741, and who married Anne GWINN, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth GWINN February 119, 1764. The issue of this marriage was: Eleanor HARRIS, John HARRIS, Martha HARRIS, born March 26, 1768, and who married John MADDOX, Thomas HARRIS, born December 31, 1769, who married Eleanor DAVIDSON, Elizabeth HARRIS, Joseph HARRIS, born
August 7, 1778, who married Susanna REEDER, John Francis HARRIS, born March 22, 1775, who married Ruth STUNSTILL, Kitty HARRIS, born July 30, 1776, who married William VINCENT, Benjamin Gwinn HARRIS, Gwinn HARRIS, Violetta HARRIS, born May 33, 1782, who married F.P. BARBER, Nathan HARRIS, born September 5, 1785, who married Mary CLAGETT, Morgan HARRIS, born November 16, 1787, who married Anna MORSON and after whose death he married Etheldra CHAPMAN."
