      1688 Robert Clarke, Planter of Charles County, for 2000 lb tobacco sells to Phillip Lynes, a tract called Small Hopes on main fresh of Wicomico River, also [Clarks] Purchase adjacent Henry Mor, and 50 acres surveyed for Robert Clarke. 12 Sep 1688. Lib P 1, fol 30. Land in Charles County. I have a note that says that Robert purchased Small Hopes the day before he sold it. Robert signed with his mark, indicating that John didn't didn't get Robert taught to write. [This also places Robert, son of the Surveyor in Charles
      County in 1688.]
