John and Alice Hatch may have had a dau. Lydia Hatch. The Jan. 23, 1702/3 Charles Co., Md. will of William Hawton calls William Hatch his "brother-in-law" at which time Hawton’s wife is named Lydia.
Source: Maryland Calendar of Wills, Vol. 3, p. 22. This might mean that Hawton was m. to Hatch’s sister or that Hatch was m. to Hawton’s sister. The first name of William Hatch’s wife is not known but she had been deceased since 1686.
Source: Charles Co., Md. Court Records, Liber N, p. 10. There is no independent confirmation that William Hawton had a sister by any name. It appears that Hawton’s mother was probably named Sarah, and William Hatch named his only child Sarah.
Sources: (1) Maryland Prerogative Court, Testamentary Proceedings, Liber 14, p. 136, and (2) Charles Co., Md. Court Records, Liber N, p. 10.
The William Hawton who made his will on Jan. 23, 1702/3 is not known to have had any daughters.
Source: Maryland Calendar of Wills, Vol. 3, p. 22.
There is also no independent confirmation that William Hatch had a sister named Lydia. Another way of asking the question is whether in Dec. 1686, by which time the Hatch-Hawton relationship had begun, either man is likely to have already m. the other’s sister.
Source: Charles Co., Md. Court Records, Liber N, p. 10.
In "A Biographical Dictionary of the Maryland Legislature” Papenfuse states (no sources given) that Lydia was nee Hatch. This is found in his biography of Robert Yates [Jr.] who was Lydia’s stepson. One might consider whether it seems more likely that William Hatch would deed all of his property, including all his father John Hatch’s land, to William Hawton for the maintenance of himself and his dau. Sarah Hatch if Hawton was presently m. to Hatch’s sister or if Hatch’s deceased wife and Sarah’s mother had been Hawton’s sister. Could both be true, that is, that Hatch siblings m. Hawton siblings? In my view, the following two men are not descendants of John and Alice Hatch: (1) the John Hatch who is first found in St. Mary’s Co. in 1706 and thereafter in Baltimore Co., having m. Sarah, the widow of Edward Jones of Baltimore, and (2) the Thomas Hatcher/Hatch first found as Hatcher in Charles Co. in 1708 and first found as Hatch in Charles Co. in 1719; his 1728 Charles Co. will and inventory call him Hatch but his administration account calls him Hatcher.

William Hatch - m. __________ who was deceased by Dec. 1686.
Source: Charles Co., Md. Court Records, Liber N, p. 10.
See discussion above. William Hatch is found as an adult in Charles Co., Md. records from June 1679 to Jan. 1702/3.
Sources: (1) Charles Co., Md. Court Records, Liber H, p. 134, and (2) Maryland Calendar of Wills, Vol. 3, p. 22. One assumes that he died in Charles Co. not long after that last record.
