John Falkner, late of CC, and Alice, his wife, by their deed dated Dec 17, 1689, leased to the afd Philip Lynes for 99 years, 200 acres in CC called Charomans Purchase, formerly in the possession of Alexander White, late of CC, decd, adjoining the land of Thos Taylor called Saint Johns and that of the afd John King called Thompkinsons Grant.       Jul 6, 1722 from John Hutchison of Prince Georges County, Gent, to John Marten of CC, Gent, for 22,500 lbs of tobacco and for divers other good causes, all that tract of land called the Lyons Denn in CC, lying in the woods on the west side of the main fresh at the head of Wicocomoco [Wicomico] River near to the land of Capt. Fendall, containing and laid out for about 300 acres. Also, all that parcel of land called Fendalls Delight in CC, bounded by sd Fendall's land, formerly taken up by Daniel Johnson, called Lyons Denn, thence to a fresh run of Zackia Swamp, containing and laid out for about 50 acres. If any part of Lyons Den shall be found to lie within the lines of any other land now belonging to Mr. Henry Hawkins, such part of the sd land shall be deemed without the meaning of these presents.       Oct 25, 1746 from John Marten Sr of CC, planter, to Marmaduke Semmes of CC, gentleman, for 22 5 shillings and 2 pence sterling money of GB and 40 shillings Maryland money, the lease of a tract of land called Fendalls Delight, lying in CC, and all appurtenances to the land belonging or disputed or taken as part as conveyed from John Hutcheson, late of Prince Georges County, gentleman, to sd John Martin, by CC deed dated Jul 6, 1722. To have and to hold, for 500 years, paying yearly to John Marten Sr one peppercorn. If, however, sd Marten, on Oct 25, 1747, pays sd Semmes, at the now dwelling house of sd Semmes in CC, the above sums with interest, then this deed shall be void.       Jun 12, 1745 from Solomon Vinton of CC, carpenter, to John Marten Sr of CC, planter, for and to the intent that sd John Marten Sr may be paid and saved harmless from such money or tobacco as sd John Marten Sr has heretofore lent, paid, or delivered to sd Solomon Vinton, and also for all such bills and debts which John Marten Sr has made or will make with Vinton for his debts, Vinton has leased to John Marten Sr 2 lots in Charles Town in CC, to wit, #60 and #64. This is a 7 year lease. The yearly rent is 5 shillings. Vinton hereby assigns to Marten all debts, bills, bonds, obligations, books of accts, or whatever else is due to Vinton on his own account. Vinton gives Marten the power to receive all debts due to Vinton in his own right & also in the right of him, of and belonging to the estate of William Ansel, late of CC, deceased, with whose widow, Ann Ansel, now wife of sd Solomon, administratrix of sd William Ansel. If, however, Vinton pays Marten all money and everything else that Marten has lent, paid, or delivered to Vinton, this deed to be void. Also, if Marten, during the next 7 years, at Vinton's request, becomes bound for Vinton for any debts brought against Vinton, and if need be, becomes special bail for Vinton in any actions brought against Vinton, then this lease shall stand good and valid. The 1st tract, Fendalls Delight, is bounded by a parcel of land formerly taken up by Daniel Johnson called Lyons Denn, Zachiah Swamp, containing and laid out for about 150 acres. Sd tract was, on Jul 6, 1722, by indenture, sold by John Hutchison of Prince Georges County, Gentleman, to John Martin of CC. The 2nd tract, called Zachias Old Bridge, is bounded by the west line of Fendalls Delight, containing and now laid out for about 73 acres. sd 2nd tract of land was taken up by Michael Martin of CC on Apr 9, 1707, as may appear by patent. Came John Martin Sr and made oath that Thomas Metcalf told him that he wrote the will of Thomas Smallwood decd, but that the wife of the sd Smallwood persuaded Metcalf to put other words concerning some land in the will than what sd Smallwood directed, which he did, at her request, and that Metcalf came to this deponent's house & stayed for James Smallwood, son of the sd testator, to go to Colo George Dent's to make oath to what is above related. But this deponent told him he acknowledged it dangerous, and that it might probably cost him his ears, whereupon sd Metcalf refuses to go & so, after, runs away. Signed - James Nivison.
