      Aug. 11, 1696 - Ordered that Joyce Garrett ye wife of Charles Garrett keep and maintain Martha Smith ye wife of Anthony Smith until this time twelve months [hence?] and to be allowed for ye same in ye County Levy 1200 lbs. of tobacco, that is to say, 600 lbs of tobacco to be paid in part at ye laying and assessing ye County Levy this year with 600 lbs. of tobacco due to her since ye last year as by a former order, and ye other 600 lbs. of tobacco to be paid at ye laying and assessing of ye County Levy next year (to wit) in 1697.

(It appears Anthony Smith left his wife destitute and the court ordered William Dent to pay Joyse Garrett, wife of Charles Garrett, part of the afsd. tobacco for the maintenance of Martha Smith.)
