June 1760 - William Trueman Stoddart and Elizabeth his wife vs. James Wood, of Charles Co., planter. As shown by an account dated Dec. 1757 and brought into court, James Wood was indebted to Elizabeth Milstead in the sum of 1100 lbs. of crop tobacco for the hire of a Negro fellow from Jan. 1756 to Dec. 1757. Wood had refused to pay Elizabeth this sum while she was still single and also refused to pay William Stoddart after he had m. Elizabeth on Mar. 1, 1759. The case came on to be heard at the June 1760 Court at which time Wood agreed that he owed William Trueman Stoddart and wife the 1100 lbs. of crop tobacco sued for. The Court then found for them in that amount, plus 271 lbs. of tobacco for their costs and charges.
