That upon the 11th Augt 1659 Sampson Cooper maketh his last will and Testament and Constituteth Major George Colclough Collonell Jno Trussell Ouerseers of his will and to take Care of his sonn Samuell and of his debts here in Virga willeth that during his Sonn Samuell's stay in this Country he in noe wise Liue att Hugh Lees howse nor that the said Hugh Lee meddle wth any part of his Estate and Constitutes his two Sonns Samuell & Jonathan Cooper, Bridgett wife to the testator, Executors Mr Nicholas Ketchmade & Anthony Branthwayte to bee Ouerseers of his two Sonns and this will wth Mr Cooke of London Silkman, And that Major George Colclough and Samuell Cooper administer of all his Estate in Virga and recouer Debts and send for England as by his will more att large appeareth. Now soe it is may it please yor Honors the said Hugh Lee hauing in his life time an intent to defraud the said Cooper not only of the twenty thowsand pounds of tobaccoe awarded him by the Arbitrators aforesaid, but allsoe of the specialty of flue hundred pounds sterling aforemenconed and all other debts due to the said Cooper to the uallue of 8000th tob: and other Goodes as will appeare by the Inuentory to the Court of Northumberland in Virga exhibited, And Surreptitiously Seizes takes and Caryes away a trunke of writeings and Goods belonging to the saide Sampson Cooper decd and left in the Possession of Mary Trussell whereby yor Orator is left remediless in the law, unles releiued by this honble Court for which unjust and illegall proceedings of the said Lees hee was by warrt brought before Mr John Rogers one of the Commrs of Northumberland County in Virga to giue security to answere the law And att a Court held for the said County of Northumberland 21th May 1660, It was Ordered that the sherriffe forthwith take bond of the said Lee with sufficient security for his appearance before the Gouernor and Councell of Virga to answere his aforesaid Crime, att which time the said Lee puts in for his security Richard fflint and John Hayne of the said Collony who were accepted and allowed by the Court but neuer made his appearance flying from the Justice of that Collony into this Prouince and moreouer Contrary to the last will and Testamt of the said Cooper procures Letters of Administracon in this Prouince and Administers upon the said Estate, and soon after dyes Whereupon Hannah Lee the Relict of the said Hugh Lee upon the 25th of December Admters upon the Estate of the said Hugh Lee her deceased husband, and marryes William Price agt whome as well as the said Hannah Lee his wife yor Orator humbly prayes Writt of Subpa that as well the said Hannah as the said William Price her husband may sett out upon Oath what bonds or other writings they now att this time haue or att any time heretofore had belonging to the Estate of the said Sampson Cooper as also what Contracts Couenants or agreemt passed betweene the said Hugh Lee and the said Cooper in theire life times that the Letters of Admcon to the said Hugh Lee granted of the Estate of the said Sampson Cooper be reuoked and other Letters of Admcon granted to yor Oratr of his said ffathers Estate according to the tenor of his ffathers will hee being the only Suruiuor of the prsons therein willed to Administer upon the debts &c in this part of the world and that the said Price may bee obleiged to deposite in the handes of this honble Court as well the 200000lb tob: due by the award aforesaid as alsoe the said Sume of 8oooth tob: due for debts and Goods illegally by the said Lee Conueyed out of the hands of Mary Trussell aforesaid And yor Orator shall pray &c

The will of Jane Perie. "My body to be decently buried by y husband Pery." To my daughter Jane property, including all wearing apparel. "To my daughter Margarett" personal property. To "my daughter Elizabeth" personal property including a frying pan at Richard Span's house, one bile and Practice of Piety at John POWELL's house. "To my son-" page mutilated here appears to be William, two heifers, a looking glass and a pestle. "I give to my son Andrew one black cow one little gunn and if I dye this sickness my will is that this boy Andrew shal be bound Apprenticed to Hugh Lee for eight years he to teach him to reade and write and to give him at the end of his time two suites of apparrell and a cow calfe". Certain property to be sold and debts and funeral charges paid. Half of the balance to daughter Elizabeth and the other half to daughters Jane and Margarett. Know all men by these presents that I Richard Turney
of the County of Northumberland Gent. for the valuable
consideration of fourteen hundred pounds of merchantable
tobacco in cask in hand received have sold and delivered
and by these presents do sell and deliver to Hugh Lee of the
same county one old cow the color black and with pied
about the age of fourteen years with a cow calf by her side
one yearling black heifer unmarked to have and hold the
said cattle as his own goods and their increase as his own
proper goods forever and I do bind my self my heirs extrs
etc. to defend the sale of the said from the claims of any
person or persons whatsoever in conformation of the
premisses I have made this bill of sale witness my hand this
15th day of April 1653.

Know all men by these presents that I Ralph Horsly of
the County of Northumberland in Virginia, Planter do [-----]
of the natural love and affection which I have to my only
son Joseph Horsly by these presents freely and absolutely
give and grant set over and deliver unto the said Joseph
Horsly one red cow with both ears cropt and a slit in the left
ear together with one red cow calf of the same mark to have
and to hold unto the said Joseph Horsly his heirs, extrs,
admtrs or assignees as his and their own proper goods and
cattle warrented against all persons forever by these
presents provided always that the male cattle that shall
happen to fall behest this day and such time as the said
Joseph shall attain the age of 21 years or be married do

with Robert Sharpe
Articles of agreement between Hugh Lee of
Northumberland on the one part and Robert Sharpe of the
same county on the other party I witness it agreed by the
above said parties that the said Hugh Lee shall stand bound
and be security for the said Robert Sharpe for three
thousand eight hundred eighty nine pounds of tobacco to be
paid as it becomes due that is to say to Wm. [-----] three
thousand to Mr. Trussell four hundred [-----] nine to
Richard Hills two hundred and thirty to Mr. [--slow two
hundred all with debts I the said [-----] bind myself my heirs
etc. to save and keep [-----] condamnified the said Hugh Lee
from any of the said debts I the said Sharpe for the better
security and payment of the above said sum of tobacco do
by these [-----] bind over all my crop of tobacco and my
[-----1 and land that I now live upon at the [-----] and for the
performance [----] interchangally set as [-----]

of Hugh Lee Overseer of the orphans of James Perrey
deceased as also by and for the transportation of five

These presents witnesseth that I Hannah Lee of
Chickacone for the affection and good will I bear· to John
Hayles have freely given and by these presents do freely
give the said John Hayles and his heirs forever one cow calf
fallen this present year, calved by a cow called, "Mag Pie"
named, "Damesell" being cropt of both ears and under
keeled of both ears and a slit down the right ear, to have and
to hold the said calf with her female increase forever and the
male increase that shall or may fall from the said cow calf or
her increase to appertaine and belong unto my loving
husband Hugh Lee untill the said John Hayles shall attain to
the age of one and twenty years and I the said Hannah Lee
do warrent the said calf and her increase as aforesaid unto
the said John Hayles and his heirs forever from any person
or persons that shall or may lay claim there unto. In witness
whereofI have here unto set my hand and seal this fifth day
