      WILL OF SIMON LUTTRELL 1723

      In the name of God amen the twenty first of August in the year of Our Lord God 1723 - I Simon LUTTRELL of Washington parish in the County of Westmoreland planter being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to God therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recomend my soul into the hands of God that give it and for my body comend it to the earth to be buryed in a christain like and decent maner at the descrecion of my executrix nothing doubting but at the general reserreccon I shall receive the same again by Th. mighty power of God and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it ... pleased God to bless me in this life, I gave devise and dispose of the same in the following maner and form.

      I give and bequeath to my well beloved son Simon LUTTERELL a negro wench commonly called and known by the name of Non, and if she bring a child, I desire that the first child that she brings may be given to my son John LUTTERELL, if in case she never bring a child I desire that my son John may have three thousand five hundred pounds of tobacco to be paid him at the day of marriage or when he comes of age.

      Item - I give and bequeath to each of my sons a feather bed and furniture.

      Item - I give and bequeath to my daughter Margrett LUTTERELL, a feather bed and furniture and two thousand weight of tobacco to be paid her upon day of marriage or when she comes of age.

      Item - I give and bequeath to each of my sons and daughters a young mare.

      Item - I desire that the orphan boy Thomas CANFIELD may be free at nineteen years of age according to his fatherís desire.

      Item - I give and bequeath to Elizabeth, my dear beloved wife all the rest of my personall estate during her life and after her decease to be equally divided between my two sons, Simon and John, like wise I constitute, make and ordain my wife my whole and sole Executrix of this my last will and testament.

      At a court held for the said County the 25th day of Sept 1723 - The last will and testament of Simon LUTTERELL decíd was presented into court by Elizabeth his Exec. who made oath thereto and being proved by the oaths of the wittnesses thereto is admitted to record, and upon the ... of the said Elizabeth and her performing what is usual in such cases certificate is granted her for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.
