      This material is taken from the Elizabeth City Parish Vestry Book, Elizabeth
      City County (pp. 72-76). It was transcribed from a photo-copy held by the
      Virginia State Library (25594). Complete precinct lists are given for the
      years 1763, 1767, 1771, and a partial list is included for 1784.
      At a Vestry held July 19, 1763 for approving Prosessioners

      Whereas the Church wardens of the Parish having received an Order of
      Elizabeth City County Court bearing the date [blank] day of July 1763 for
      calling a Vestry for dividing the said Parish into so many Precincts as to
      them shall seem convenient for Processioning the Lands within the said
      Precincts, the Vestry have accordingly divided the said Parish into the
      following Precincts, VIZ:

      I. PRECINCT. Includes the lands of William MARSHALL decd., John Lowns
      {Lowry?}. John Kerby, Simon Collier orphan, John Tabb orphan, Judith
      Robinson, John Tabb Jr., Augustine Moore, and Jane Allen, William Smelt,
      john Parsons the heir of William Parsons decd. Merit Moore, and Westwood
      Armistead orphan, Robert Armistead, and that Augustine Moore and John
      Parsons begin to procession the said lands between the last day of September
      and see all the land in the said precinct processioned according the law by
      the last day of March next, and return to the Vestry the names of the
      persons present, and what lands they shall fail to procession and particular
      reasons of such failure. And it is further ordered that every particular
      freeholder of Guardian thereof mentioned in the said precinct shall attend
      at the same time and perform processioning by going round each person's land
      and renewing the land-marks.

      II. PRECINCT. Includes the lands of Sym's free school, Mallory Ross, George
      Wythe, john Francis, Francis Mallory, William Mallory, Thomas Kirby, Lockey
      Collier, John Armistead, Thomas Nicholls, Samuel Tompkins decd., Robert
      Sandifur, Edward Latimer, Young Moreland, Westwood Armistead orphan,
      Benjamin Lister, Robert Armistead, Samuel Roberts; and that Edward Latimer
      and William Mallory begin to procession.......(similar to above).

      III. PRECINCT. Includes the lands of William Cross, Samuel Curle, Samuel
      Dubree, Capt. Reynolds, Judith Herbert, Thomas Kirby, William Westwood,
      Miles King orphan, Henry King, Josiah Massenburg, John Jones, Richard Wilson
      and the Robert Massenburg and William Cross procession.

      IV. PRECINCT. Includes the lands of John Allen, John Mason decd., Edward
      Yeargain, William Westwood, Thomas Latimer, Booth Armistead, Mark Powell
      decd., Thomas Skinner, Robert Armistead, and that Edward Yeargain and Josiah
      Massenburg procession.

      V. PRECINCT. Includes the lands of Moseley Armistead, John Armistead,
      Francis Mallory, John Allen, Thomas Smith, Phillip Allen decd., John Bayley,
      Henry Allen, the orphan of Dun Armistead, John Nelson. And that John Allen
      jr. and Moseley Armistead procession.

      VI. Precinct. Includes the Lands of William Westwood, John Hunter, Wilson
      Bayley, Judith Herbert, Mary King, the orphan of John Jenkins, the orphan of
      Charles Jennings, John Moore decd., Anthony Tucker decd., John Creek decd.,
      John Smith, Samuel Noland, Wilson Gray, William Loyell, Robert Tucker,
      William Weymouth, Thomas Dixon, Thomas Davis, Roscoe Sweny, David Wilson
      Curle, Robert Armistead, John Hays, William Wager, John Brodie. And that
      Samuel Rowland and John Smith procession.
