      Know all men .. that whereas THOMAS DOBBINS of county Caroline deceased in or about the year 1748 died intestate and was in his lifetime and at time of his death possessed of (4 slaves named) and whereas Thomas left his widow FRANCES who afterwards intermarried with JAMES DAVIS both parties to these presents and two children to wit EDWARD DOBBINS his heir and his Daughter named CATHERINE and whereas Frances before her intermarriage with James Davis obtained administration of the Estate of Thomas Dobbins and paid off the Debts which exhausted the whole estate whereof the said deceased possessed, the slaves nevertheless remained clear and by order of Caroline Court the slaves Kate, Jenny & Chanty (the two last born since the death of the Intestate) were allotted to Frances for her dower in the slaves, the said wench Kate has had eight children since the said allotment who with the two born before are all alive, and whereas the said Catherine by the laws of this county may not be entitled to reasonable provision out of the Estate aforesaid and the said Edward, James and Frances being desirous to advance said Catherine in marriage have agreed to give her (four slaves) .. Now This Instrument of Writing Witnesseth that Edward, James and Frances in consideration of the love and affection they have for Catherine and with the view to advance her in marriage have granted (her)(4 slaves named)
      .. upon express condition that Catherine when of age twenty one years on delivery of said slaves shall execute or prevail upon her future husband to Execute absolute release in and to any part of the Estate THOMAS DOBBINS died possessed ..
