On Dec. 23, 1714. "John Buckner of Gloucester, gent, and Robert Ballard of King and Queen County, are granted 400 acres of land on the south fork of the Mattapony, in King and Queen County.

There is a tradition that his wife was Anne Ballard, but nothing certain is known about this. That her Christian name was Anne is ascertained from a deed which she made in Essex County, dated July 17, 1717, in which she mentions two of her sons-John and William-as well as her husband, John Buckner.
