      pp. 155a TO ALL XPIAN PEOPLE to whom these presents shalt come I HENRY PEYTON of OCQUIA in Stafford County ye Sonne & heirs of HENRY PEYTON Late of LONDON Merchant deced Whereas my said Father at ye tyme of his Death stood seized in a Tract of Lande in this County of Stafford formerly WESTMORELAND containinge beinge laid out for Four hundred acres on ye South side of the POTOMACK RIVER knowne by ye name of ye SANDY & RAGGED POINT opposite to ye PLANTACON bounded North upon a Marsh & Red Banks East upon POTOMACK RIVER South alonge the POTOMACK RIVER to another Small Branch West into ye Woods as loth appeare by a Pattent granted to RICHARD CODSFORD bearing date ye 5th September 1654 and by ye said RICHARD CODSFORD assigned to my said Father ye 3d day of June 1656 & by my said Father renewed & taken in his owne name by Order of ye Governour & Councell upon new right & by an Order dated ye 13 day of October 1657 and a Pattent thereon granted to him ye 1st day of November 1657 as by ye same will appears and by lust Dessent in Law descended to me ye said HENRY PEYTON as Sonne & Heire to my said Father HENRY PEYTON deced Now Know yee that ye said HENRY PEYTON for sume of foure thousand pounds of Tobacco in Caske paid me by JAMES BUTLER of Stafford County aforesaid GLOVER receipt of wch I do acknowledge have sold unto the said JAMES BUTTLER his heires a pcell of land containing Two hundred and eighty acre bounded begininge att a small white Oake marked a Corner tree standinge at ye Mouth of a small branch by ye River side just att ye outside of ye old field where WILLIAM DAVIS lives & extending South along the POTOMACK RIVER to a great white oaks including ye plantacon called COCKPYE POINT & ye greater part of ye Marsh sometime in ye possession of THOMAS SMITH late of this County deced from thence by a lyne of marked trees West into ye Woods to a marked Black Oake a Corner tree finally North East to ye first menconed small white oake To Have and To Hold ye said Two hundred and eighty acres of land the benefitt of him ye said JAMES BUTTLER & to no other purpose whatsoever, in Witnesse 1 have sett my hande and Seale this 22 day of March 1689/90

      The Last Will and Testament of THOMAS BUTLER, deced., was presented into Court by JAMES BUTLER & JOHN BAKER, Executors of the same who made Oath thereto and being proved by the Oaths of NATHANIELL GRAY, WILLIAM RAWLINS and JOSIAS SILVER, wittnesses thereto is admitted to Record and upon the motion of the Executors and their performing what is usuall in such cases, Certifycate is granted them for obtaining a Probate thereofin due form; And it is ordered that ROBERT LOVELL, ANDREW HARRISON, LAWRENCE BUTLER and WILLIAM GRAHAM, or any three of them being first sworn before one ofher Majesty's Justices for the County, doe sometime before the next Court value and appraise THOMAS BUTLER's Estate and make report ofthe same to the next Court

      - HOAKINS bound to BUTLER
      RICHARD BUTLER by his Petition setting forth that JOHN HOAKINS and ELIZABETH his Wife being lately deced., and at the time of their death left their two youngest Sons, BENJAMIN and JAMES, unto JAMES BUTLER, Brother to the Petitioner, and JAMES BUTLER being also lately deced., therefore prays that the two Children, BENJAMIN and JAMES, may be bound to him, &c. The Court on consideration thereof doe bind the two Children, BENJAMIN and JAMES, unto the Petitioner till they each of them arrive to the age of twenty one years, and order that RICHARD BUTLER, the Petitioner, doe teach the Children or cause them to be taught some handicraft trade and to read and write, and at the expiration of their servitude to pay and allow them in like manner as is appointed for Servants by Indenture or Custome, and that he give good security in the sum of twenty pounds Sterling for the performance thereof. Whereupon JOHN WILLIS together with RICHARD BUTLER in open Court acknowledged themselves indebted unto the Worshipfull his Majesty's Justices in the sum of twenty pounds Sterling, with condition that if RICHARD BUTLER shall well and truely comply with the abovesd. Order in all things relateing to the Orphans, then the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in force
