      STAFFORD COUNTY VA WILL BOOK S; 1780-1789; THE ANTIENT PRESS
      PP. 359-360 WILLIAM MATHEWS WILL. In the name of God Amen. I WILLIAM MATHEWS of County of Stafford & State of Virginia being weak of body but of perfect sense and memory praise Almighty God for the same do make my last Will & Testament in manner and form following;
      Imprimis. I give & bequeath my Soul to God who gave it, hoping through the merits & mediation of my Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, for a full pardon of all my sins & a joyful resurrection at the last day. & my body to be decently buried by the direction of my Executors hereinafter named & as touching my worldly Estate, I bequeath the same as followeth:
      Item I give & bequeath to my loving Mother, ANN THOMSON, the sum of fifty pounds current money of Virginia to be paid unto her by my Executors in Five years after my decease; in yearly payments of Ten pounds per year, And whereas I believe my Wife to be with Child, if she should the Child arrive at. the age of marriage, I give to that & its heirs forever all my Estate both real & personal, but in case my Wife should not prove with Child, or it should die before it arrives at the age or marries, I then give my whole Estate both real & personal to my loving Wife & her heirs forever; & Whereas I am entitled to a considerable sum of money in Great Brittaih by right of my Wife, my Will and desire is that as scion as the sd. money can be got, that it shall be laid out in land by my Executors at their discretion, which land I give to my Child if it arrives to age or marries, otherwise I give the sd land to my Wife in case my sd. Child should live & my Wife should marry again before it arrives to age or marries, then my desire is that my Wife possess no more than her dower of my Estate, my desire is that my sd. Wife have the use of the whole Estate until she marries or my Child arrives to age, or marries, for the sup-port of herself and Child & the Education of the sd. Child, until it arrives to age or marries;
      I constitute & appoint my loving Wife & my Friends, Mr. THOMAS SHORT of KING GEORGE County & BENJAMINE HARRISON of FAUQUIER County Executrix & Executors of this my last Will & Testament whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this third day of December 1785

      The above Will of WILLIAM MATHEWS deced., was then presented in Court by MARGRET`. Widdow of said WILLIAM, & THOMAS SHORT, Executrix and Executor therein named, who made oath thereto according to Law & being also proved by the oaths of JAMES FORD & JOSEPH COMES. evidences thereto, & was ordered to be recorded; & on motion of sd_ Executors & entering into Bond for the sum of 3000 with DANIEL TRIPLET & JAMES FORD as their securities for the due execution thereof, Probate is granted them in due form
