      Thomas Powell who lived in Sittingburne Parish in Essex County left a Will, written March 2, 1700, stating he was "very sick and weak," which was proved on April 10, 1701 (1701 Essex County Will Book, page 75). He leaves land to be divided equally between his sons, Place and Thomas and his wife Mary, her part at her death to go to son William, cattle to son, William and "these persons that hath the education of my son William till he shall come ot the age of 21 years." He also left bequests to daughters Frances Powell, Elizabeth Salmon, Anne Coffee, and sons, Honours (Honorias) and Place and son-in-law-John Salmon, to be Executors. Signed by mark of Thomas Powell.

      1704 Thomas was listed in the Essex Co Quit Rent Roll. He and his three brothers owned equal acreage of land.

      IN THE NAME OF GOD, Amen I THOMAS POWELL of the Parish of Cittingburn in the County of Essex and Colony of Virga: being very sick & of perfect memory blessed and praised be to Almighty God for the same doe make & ordaine this to be my last Will & Testamt. in manner and forme following; First I cominde my souls into the hands of Almighty God that gave itt hopeing by he meritorious death & passion of or: blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to receive full remission of all my sins and a joyful! resurrection att the last Day and my body to be decently and Christianly buryed at the discretion of Exercr hereafter named & as for ye worldly goods that God hath lent me I will & bequeath them all as followeth:
      Imprimis It is my will that my land be devided into three equal parts and that my Two Sons, PLACE POWELL & THOMAS POWELL have each of them one third part of my said land and that my Wife, MARY POWELL, dureing her natural! life possess the other third part of the land and forthwith after the decease of my said Wife out of this life that this said third of my Land desend on my Sonne, WILLIAM POWELL, And it is my will that my land bequeathed as aforesd. to my Sons, PLACE POWELL, THOMAS POWELL & WILLIAM POWELL descend after their or either of their decease upon the heirs of their body lawfully begotten & for want of such heires that then it desend upon the next of my name and Lineage and we from heire to heire till both my name and lineage be extent
      Item I give unto my Son, WILLIAM POWELL, halfe my feemal cattle and all their male Increase & my will is that the Male goe to those persons that hath the Education of my Son, WILLIAM POWELL, till he shall come of the age of Twenty one years of age and further
      Item I give unto my Daughter, FRANCES POWELL, two cowes called Rose & Nanne with their increase
      Item I give unto my Sonne, HONNER POWELL & my Daughter, ELIZABETH SALMON, & my Daughter ANNE COFFEE each of them one Shilling and as for the rest of my Estate and the other halfe of my Cattele I will & bequeath it to my loveing Wife, MARY POWELL as long as she remaines a Widow or decease out of this mortal! life and then it shall equally be deived between PLACE POWELL, THOMAS POWELL & ELIZABETH SALMON & ANNE COFFE, Alsoe it is my will that my two Sons, PLACE POWELL & my Son in Law, JOHN SALMON, be Exerr, of this my last Will and Testament hereby nullifyeing & makeing void all former Will by me at any time Signed Sealed or Published. As Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand & scale 2d of March Anno Dom: 1700
