John, son of Lawrence and Joyce (Fleming) Washington, was born in 1665; he was Sheriff of Stafford County, in 1718, and married Mary Townshend; they had four children: Lawrence, Henry, Townshend, and John Washington. Townshend Washington was born in 1705 and died in 1778; he married Elizabeth Lund, and they had five children: Robert, Lawrence, Lund, Catherine and John Washington. The eldest son, Robert Washington, was born in 1729 and he married, in 1756, Alice Strother,(*) a daughter of Benjamin and Mary (Mason) Fitz-Hugh Strother and great-granddaughter of William Strother, the Virginia Immigrant. Robert and Alice (Strother) Washington had a son, Lund WASHINGTON, who was born in 1767 and died in 1853; he married, in 1793, Susannah Monroe GRAYSON, a cousin of President Monroe, and was postmaster at Washington, D. C.; they had six children: Susan Jane (who married Edward S. Lewis), Lund, William, Peter Grayson, Sarah Hay, and Smith Washingt
