  • Notes
    • "Gustavus E. Edwards, a veteran of the War of 1812, came to Texas in 1822, his wife dying enroute to the Stephen F. Austin colony. As one of the old three hundred colonists, Edwards received title to a league of land in present Wharton County on August 19, 1824. In 1825 he was operating the Robinson ferry on the Brazos river at the site of Washington-on -the-Brazos. Edwards was postmaster at Piney in October 1836. In July 1837, Edwards sold his Austin County farm and moved to his league in Wharton County. He was living at Wharton in 1856."
