      Carla Goodloe's Family

From Goodloe Book p. B-17: Lived in Caroline Co, Virginia and part of his lands were in Spotsylvania County, Virginia when the county lines were drawn and separated his lands in 1727. Sometimes called 'Junior' to distinguish him from his grandfather, George, the immigrant. All of George (junior)'s children were born in Caroline Co. George was Justice of the Quorum in 1735 and sheriff in 1736. Note: TE Campbell says in "Colonial Caroline -- A History of Caroline County, Virginia " p. 356 "The sheriff was the chief executive of a county. He presided over the court, enforc ed the laws, and collected the taxes. He was appointed by the gov'nor from a apenl of three magistrates recommended by the court for a term of one year. He was ineligible for immediate reappointment." p. 357 "George Goodloe was sheriff of Caroline in 1737 and his deputies were Wm Boulware, George Todd, and Robert Dudley." p. 379 "The household effects of Robert Dudley are listed in detail in the Order Book for 1740, and Dudley was a rich man. The reason they were listed was because the heirs of George Goodloe accused him of getting rich too fast by stealing a portion of the commissions when he served as deputy while Goodloe was sheriff. Dudley was exonerated."
