      TALIAFERRO, FRANCIS, Spotsylvania, d. Feb. 23, 1756, p. Mar. 7, 1758. Wit. James Tutt, John Waller; Humphrey Brooke, Richard Tutt, Junr. Ex. sons, Lawrence, Hay, Francis and John Taliaferro.
      Leg. daughter, Anne Hay Brooke, land and plantation in Spotsylvania, whereon she now lives, which I purchased of Thomas Turner, of King George County, Gentl. and Thomas Turner and Mary his wife, late of Spotsylvania;
      daughter Elizabeth Taliaferro, 1,000 acres of land in Orange County, formerly Spotsylvania, granted to me by my deced. brother, John Taliaferro, by patent dated Sept. 28, 1728;
      son, Lawrence Taliaferro, all my estate, both real and personal, in Caroline County, also 1,200 acres of land and two plantations in Orange County, it being one moiety of 2,400 acres taken up by my father, Lawrence Taliaferro, and my uncle, John Taliaferro, and adjoining the land where William Taliaferro now lives;
      son Hay Taliaferro, estate in King George County, and 2,000 acres of land in Orange County, 1,000 acres thereof purchased by my now deced. brother, John Taliaferro, of Richard and William Taliaferro, and the other 1,000 acres purchased by me of Thomas Smith;
      son Francis Taliaferro, land and plantation whereon I now live in Spotsylvania, and to hold the same according to the division made between me and my brother John Taliaferro, deced. also 1,000 acres of land in Orange County, it being one moiety of land which was patented by my brother John Taliaferro, deced. and divided between us;
      son, John Taliaferro, my land and plantation in Spotsylvania, whereon my brother, John Taliaferro lived, also 1,000 acres of land in Orange County, being the other moiety of the aforesaid mentioned 2,000 acres, and is that part whereon Nicholas Christopher lived; brother, William Taliaferro; Elizabeth and Anne Battaley, the two daughters of my friend Moseley Battaley.
      Codicil to the above dated Feb. 25, 1757, witnessed by Robert Jackson, John Catlett and Thomas Catlett, recites "the testator of this will hath disposed of some estate in his possession belonging to my brother William Taliaferro (which I claim as heir apparent to him) to several of my children, he the said William being found an idiot by a jury convened for that purpose summoned and sworn and their report recorded among the records of Spotsylvania Co. Court." (Page 343)

      THIS INDENTURE made the xxiv day of January in year of our Lord 1774 Between JOHN ALEXANDER of County of STAFFORD, Gent,. and LUCY ALEXANDER, Daughter of said JOHN ALEXANDER. of the first part and JOHN TALIFERRO of County of King George of second part and SEMOUR HOOE of County of STAFFORD of the third part. Whereas MARY DONNE, Widow, late of County of King George by her Last Will and Testament in Writing bearing date the 20th dy of June 1769, among other things devised unto LUCY ALEXANDER. her Grand Daughter, one half of her tract of land in County of CULPEPER in fee simple and also sundry slaves by name. Jupiter, Jane. Jupiter. Violet the younger, Peter, Lett, John, Will, Judy the younger., Bob, Tom, Lett, Bess. Bristol. Nelly & young Philis, likewise one half of her stocks of cattle hoggs horses & sheep as by the sd Will of Record in County Court of King George will appear; And Whereas a Marriage is intended by the permission of God to be shortly had and solemnized between the said JOHN TALIAFERRO and LUCY ALEXANDER; NOW THIS INDENTURE WITNESSETH that in consideration of the intended Marriage taking effect and of the land, slaves & stocks herein before mentioned being delivered to said JOHN TALIAFERRO at or before the solemnization of the Marriage and in farther consideration of the sum of ten shillings paid unto SEMOUR HOOE said JOHN TALIAFERRO shall within six months from the date transfer at any time after the solemnization of said Marriage when thereto required, good and sufficient Deeds in the Law, settle convey and assure all that Plantation tract of land and premises whereupon the said JOHN TALIAFERRO lately lived scituate on the RIVER RAPPAHANNOCK in County of King George, also that moiety or one half of the land in CULPEPER County devised ye sd, LUCY ALEXANDER as aforesaid; likewise the Negroes herein before mentioned by name with their Increase as well as those hereafter to be born as those which already have been born since the decease of the said MARY DONNE, together with the several Stocks before mentioned to such uses intents and purposes as herein after expressed concerning the same, that is to say, the tract of Land scituate on RAPPAHANNOCK RIVER, the one half of the said tract of land in CULPEPER County with the slaves and their increase together with ye several stocks to the use of SEMOUR HOOE and his heirs to support the uses and limitations herein after expressed from being disipated or destroyed and in the first place to permit and suffer sd, JOHN TALIAFERRO to take possess and enjoy the rents issue & profits of the lands, slaves and stocks together with their respective increase during the term of his natural life and from & after the decease of JOHN TALIAFERRO then to the use of said SEYMOUR HOOE In Trust and for benefit of LUCY ALEXANDER in case she should survive and out live JOHN TALIAFERRO during her natural life in full satisfaction & lieu of Dower and after the decease of JOHN TALIAFERRO and LUCY ALEXANDER then to the use of such Child or Children of JOHN TALIAFERRO and LUCY ALEXANDER, the issue of such Marriage, as shall be then living or if dead the legal representatives and their heirs excepting the tract of land on RAPPAHANNOCK RIVER which is to decend and pass after the death of LUCY ALEXANDER to such person or persons as JOHN TALIAFERRO shall direct and appoint and in default of such appointment to the right heirs of JOHN TALIAFERRO; In Witness whereof the parties hereunto have mutually set their hands and seals the day and year above written
