      STAFFORD COUNTY VA DEED & WILL BOOK 1686 - 1689; THE ANTIENT PRESS
      pp. 69-70 THIS INDENTURE made this Seaventeenth day of November 1687 Betweene MARY REVETT Widdow & Relict of JONAH REVETT late of County of Stafford Planter Deced of one part and CAPT. GEORGE BRENT of said County. Whereas Sr. WM. BERKELEY Lieut. Governor & Capin Generall of Virginia by his Letters Pattent undr the Seale of' the Cottony beareing date the first day of June 1663 give &Grants unto Mr. ISAAC WATSON & MR. SAMUELL MOTTERSHED four hundred acres of land situate in WESTMORELAND COUNTY bounded on the South East syde with the land of EDWD. PARKER West Southwest to the Woods NNE upon the head of a Creeke which boundeth this land and a tract of one thousand acres of Mr. VALLENTINE PEYTON, and downe the said Creeke to the place where the tract first began the said land being formerly granted to RICHD. COTSFORD by Pattent beareing date ye 20 Augt 1655 and then granted to the sd ISAAC WATSON & SAMUELL MOTTERSBED & by Ordr of Court dated 31 of March 1662 a also by & for the transportation of Eight persons into this Colloney To Have and To Hold to them the said ISAAC WATSON & SAMUELL MOTTERSHED their heires as by the said in part recited Pattent and Whereas the said ISAAC WATSON & SAMUEL MOTTERSHED did assigne over all their right & title of the said land to RICH. HEATH his heires and assig,nes as by a record thereof acknowledged the 7 of December 1663 in JAMES CITTY COUNTY more at large may appeare & Whereas the said RICHARD HEATH by THO: BUNBURY his Attorney did grante all the title to the premises to JAMES WILKINS & to his heires as by record thereof acknowledged in ye County Court records of Stafford the 9 Septr. 1663 will appeare and Whereas the said JAMES WILKINS did sett over all his Right to the premises by his Attorney WM. NORWOOD unto the said MARY REVETT as by a record thereof acknowld. in the said Court ty Court of Stafford the thirty first day of Augt 1670 will appeare. NOW THIS INDENTURE WITNESSETH that the said MARY REVETT for & in consideration of the sume of Six thousand pounds of Toba Caske to her paid by GEORGE BRENT hath sold unto the said GEORGE BRENT the granted premises In Witness whereof

      This Sale of Land was acknowld. in the County Court of Stafford by said MARY REVETT unto Capt GEORGE BRENT this 16 day of Novembr 1687 And was then recorded This Deed has relation to an Assignmt. from within to the sd REVETT recorded the 31 day of Aug 1670

      p. 91 KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that JONAH RIVETT Sonne of JONAH RIVETT of Stafford County Late deced doe acknowledge to have received of HENRY
      MEREST who married MARY my Mother & Admx. of ye Estate of my said Father deced one Cow & Caife, three Sowes and two Shoates being every part of ye Estate of my said Father deced belonging and appertaining to me the said JONAH RIVIT for my share and 1 doe by these presents fully release my said Mother as Admtra aforesaid and HENRY MERREST who marryed the said Admtrx. from all demands whatsoever to ye said Esate. In Witness thereof I have set my hand and Seale the one & twentieth day of June 1688

      798. GEORGE LUKE made humble petition to this Court showing that your peti
      tioner by virtue of a grant made to him made by Collo. WM. FITZHUGH doth hold and enjoy the two thirds in three parts to be divided with HENRY MEREST in Right of MARY his wife of a certain Dividend plantation and tract of land in this County of Stafford Therefore your petitioner humbly prays division of said premises according to Law .. And the Court having considered the premises and the equity and reasonableness thereof Therefore tis ordered that the said land be divided according to the quality and quantity as the Law directs in such cases and that Henry Merest in right of his wife shall have first choice of one third part together with the housing orchard and pasture ground.

      p.265 The Deposition of MARY MEREST aged about fifty & two yeares or thereabouts saith that about Twelve or thirteene yeares agoe ye Wife of THOMAS HOWARD
      JUNR . and THOMAS HOWARD SENIOR had a great fallinge outt att ye house of yor Depont and ye aforesaid THOMAS HOWARD SENIOR did call ye Wife of ye aforesaid THOMAS HOWARD JUNR, Idle house Wife and told her if it were not for her husbandes Sake that was his near kinsman and his owne fleshe and blood hee could finde in his heart to kick her or words to that effect Some small time after ye aforesaid THOMAS HOWARD SENR. was att ye house of yor Depont againe fallinge into some discourse yor Depont asked ye aforesaid THOMAS HOWARD how ye said THOMAS HOWARD JUNR, could bee soe near a kin to you for hee was borne in YORK SHIRE and you a great way off from him that is nothinge saith hee his Father was not YORK SHIRE for hee is my first Cozen for his Father& mine tumbled both in one belly for all ye watters in ye River could not wash away ye kin and further saith not
