      STAFFORD COUNTY VA WILL BOOK S; 1780-1789; THE ANTIENT PRESS
      pp. 362- 363 ALEKR. GADDESS WILL. In the name of God Amen, I ALEXANDER GADDISS of the Parish of Overwharton in County of Stafford being in a low state of health tho of sound memory, I do hereby make and ordain this my last Will & Testament disannulling & revoking all other Wills legacies or bequeaths heretofore made by me. I give & bequeath unto my well beloved Wife, ANN GADDESS, my whole Estate, real personal, during her nattural life or Widowhood, & it is my Will &desire that if my Daughters shalt marry in the life time of their Mother, that she shall then give them what part of the Estate she at her own discretion shalt think fit during her natural life.
      Item. I give unto my Son.. ALEXANDER, all my land to him & the heirs of his body law-fully begotten, but in case of default of such heirs, then to return, to be equally divided between my two Daughters, ELIZABETH & ANN GADDESS, to them & their heirs lawfully begotten forever
      Item. It is my will & desire that all my Negroes including a Negro boy I lent RICHD. RATCLIFF named George shall, after the death of my Wife, be equally divided amonge all my Children, & my stock & household furniture & plantation utensils shall be equally divided between my Son, ALEXANDER, & my Daughters.. ELIZABETH & ANN GADDESS, my Daughter, MARGARET RATCLIFF have had her full part before, & if my Son should marry before my Daughters, then my Daughters shall be entitled to the small Room of my great House, it is likewise my will & desire that my Daughters, ELIZABETH & ANN GADDESS shall be entitled to receive annually during their Mothers life, three hundred pounds of Crop Tobacco each, to be paid out of the profits of the Estate,
      Lastly, I nominate constitute & appoint my well beloved Wife, ANN GADDESS, & my Son, ALEXANDER GADDESS, the whole &sole Executors of this my last Will & Testament, but if my Wife should die before my Son arrives to the age of Six & twenty years, then I nominate my trustly friend, JOHN MURRY of the County of PRINCE WILLIAM an Executor to this my last Will & Testament, In Witness whereof I have set my hand this 26th day of December 1785

      At a Court held for Stafford County the 9th day of October 1786
      The above Will of ALEXANDER GADDESS deced was then presented by ANN, his Widow and Executrix therein named, who made oath thereto according to Law, and being also proved by two of the Evidences thereto, the same is ordered to be recorded. And on motion of the said ANN and her giving Bond and taking the oath by Law required, Probate thereof is granted her in due forme.. JOHN MURRAY Gt., the Executor in this Will named came into Court and refused to act as such: ordered the same be certified
