Charles County Land Records 1792-1796; Liber N#4; Page 492. Nov 30, 1795 between Edward Spalding of the one part, George Hilary Spalding of the 2nd part, and Basil Spalding of the 3rd part. A certain Basil Spalding, late of CC, father of sd Edward, George Hilary, and Basil Spalding, died owning a tract of land in CC, and by his will devised the same to them, sd Edward, George Hilary, and Basil, to be equally divided between them. Now this deed witnesses that sd Edward, George Hilary, and Basil, hereby have made partition to the premises devised to them as afd, as follows. Ed Edward shall hold lot #1, bounded by the main Branch of Port Tobacco Swamp where the out line of Green's Inheritance crosses sd Branch, the main road leading from Port Tobacco to Piscataway, containing about 112.75 acres. George Hilary shall hold lot #2, bounded by the main Branch of Port Tobacco Swamp, the main road leading from Port Tobacco to Piscataway, the main Road to the out line of the land left by Basil Spalding decd to his 3 sons, containing about 202 acres. Basil shall hold lot #3, bounded by the main Branch of Port Tobacco swamp, the out lines of the 2 lots formerly occupied by the 2 brothers, Peter and Thomas Dudley Greens, containing about 150 acres. signed - Edward Spalding, Geo H. Indenture made October 7, 1797; Edward Spalding in consideration of 675 pouds current money paid by Basil Spalding and George H. Spalding, hath sold a tract of land called "Green's Inheritance" containing 112-1/2 acres
Signed Edward Spalding in the presence of Alexander McPherson, Joseph Marbury (5.66)
October 7, 1797: Juliet Spalding wife of Edward Spalding released her right of dower.

Charles County Land Records 1796-1799; Liber IB-2 {Abstract by Mike Marshall}; Page 315. Release: at the request of Negro Nelly, the following Release and Deposition was recorded March 19th 1798.
I hereby give up all claim right and title to negro Nelly who has lately proved she descended from Old Irish Nell Butler if all that were born of her before and after wedlock are justly and lawfully entitled to their freedom, otherwise as I am informed that she has descended from Nell after marriage, I shall not give her a discharge till I'm convinced they are generally free. Signed Edward Spalding on February 9, 1792.
CC Sct March 14, 1798; then came John B. Wathen and made oath that he was present and heard William Higdon (since deceased) prove on oath before the subscriber then a justice of the peace that a mullato woman named Nelly and then claimed as a slave and the property of Edward Spalding to be descendant of Old Irish Nell Butler by the female side. Sworn before William D. Briscoe.
