      Charles County Land Record Book S#3, 1770-1775; Page 613. Marriage Settlement. Indenture tripartite made this Aug 12, 1774 between Samuel Hanson of CC, Gentleman, of the 1st part, Ann Horner, widow, of the 2nd part, and Gustavus Richard Brown, Doctor of Physick, and brother to sd Ann Horner, and as trustee mutually appointed by sd Samuel Hanson and Ann Horner, of the 3rd part, witnesses that whereas a marriage is intended shortly to be had between sd Samuel Hanson and sd Ann Horner, and sd Samuel wanting to make a proper settlement on Ann of part of his estate in case she survives him, and Ann being willing to accept the same in lieu of all dower right which she might have in the real and personal estate of Samuel if she survives him, now Samuel, for 5 shillings to Samuel paid by Gustavus, has sold to Gustavus, the following tracts of land in Portobacco Parish in CC: part of a tract of land called The Three Brothers containing about 160 acres; part of a tract of land called Robey's Help containing about 118 acres; a tract of land called the Gore containing about 45 acres. To have and to hold to Gustavus unto the use of Samuel until the marriage, and afterwards to the use of Samuel during his natural life, and after the death of Samuel, to the use of Ann during her natural life, and after the death of Ann, to the use of the heirs of Samuel. Samuel will pay Ann 500 if the marriage takes place and Ann outlives Samuel, to be paid in 6 equal payments at the end of every quarter of a year after the death of Samuel. It Ann survives Samuel, Ann may use and occupy one half of the now dwelling house of Samuel, as she shall choose to lay it off one half of the plantation whereon sd Samuel now lives, to be laid off as Ann thinks proper, together with half the houses on sd dwelling plantation, and one half of the profits of the Water mill of Samuel on the same plantation, and that Ann has liberty to get firewood wherever she pleases on sd plantation. Ann's use of half the dwelling house, plantation, and mill, is to continue for one whole year after the death of Samuel and no longer. Sd Ann Horner and her children by Robert Horner, her decd husband, may use and possess, all estate, goods, chattels, rights, credits, and effects which Ann has as a widow or relict of sd Robert Horner, may have.       Indenture made October 12, 1774; Samuel Hanson, gentleman of Charles County, Maryland and Ann Hanson his wife in consideration of the rents and covenants hereinafter contained has demised and to farm let by these presents unto Thomas John Clagett, clerk of Calvert County, Maryland a tenement being the thirds of a tract called "Croom" which they have a right to by virtue of Ann's intermarriage with the late Rev. Samuel Clagett of Charles County, Maryland. To have and to hold during the natural life of And Hanson and no longer paying annually on or before October 12th, 12 pounds, circulating money, provided always and whereas 150 acres part of the aforesaid tract called "Croom" purchased by the late Rev. Samuel Clagett of Leonard Piles is now claimed by the heirs in tail of Francis Piles father of Leonard Piles who threatens to bring suit for recovery of the said 150 acres if such suit should be actually brought in recovery had by law and Thomas John Clagett should be ousted of the possession of the said 150 acres then in such case no more than 9 pounds 10 shillings common circulating money shall be paid annually from the time of such ouster.
