      Memorandum that on the special petition of Thomas Bowie preferred to the justices of Prince George's County, Maryland on the 4th Tuesday in June in the 3rd year of his Lordship commission the Right Hon. the Lord Proprietary Dominion etc., his Lordship commission issued by order of the justices aforesaid out of the county aforesaid on the 11th day of July Anno Domini 1752. In these words following, Frederick Absolute Lord and Proprietary of the Province of Maryland and Avalon Lord Baron of Baltimore Vizt; to Messrs Mordecai Jacob, Thomas Williams, Thomas Harwood and Richard Duckett of PGCo gentleman, whereas Thomas Bowie is seized of "Ryley's Lott" and preferred their petition in writing to our county court held at Upper Marlborough Town before Peter Dent, gentleman and his associates then and still justices within our county to examine evidence to prove and perpetuate the memory of the bounds of the said tracts of land. Therefore, we command you any three or two of you to examine all witnesses or persons concerned touching their knowledge of the bounds of the said tracts.       Monday, August 13, 1753; at a marked hickory on the east side of Collington Branch and near the Widow Roberts old field when there appeared the remains of a red oak. Mr. Humphrey Beckett aged 80 being sworn declares that James Mullikin, Jr., told him about 15 years ago that Mr. Robert Tyler told him that there was a bounded red oak stood near Collington Branch by the corner of Pindell's old fields and it was a bounded tree of Brooke's land. This deponent further saith that James Mullikin came and found a tree as before described by Mr. Robert Tyler which was then standing and appeared to be a bound tree by being notched with 12 notches. This deponent further saith that Thomas Pindell told him that Mr. Robert Tyler for warned him from cutting any further in the woods for it was Mr. Brooke's land and further saith not
      Mr. William Bowie aged 33 being sworn saith that some time before his father bought the land of Mr. Basil Brooke that his father told him to inquire how the land laid and that he spoke to James Mullikin to ride with him that he might see how the land lay and he the said James Mullikin brought him to the tree described by Humphrey Beckett and told him it was a boundary tree between Mr. Tyler and Mr. Brooke and further saith not.
