      IN THE NAME OF GOD, Amen. I JAMES BOWCOCK of Washington Parish in County of Westmoreland being sick & weak in body but thanks be to Almighty God of a sound and perfect sence and memory, and I do now make & ordain this to be my Last Will and Testment in manner and form as followeth; I give my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it me in shure hopes of a joyfull resurrection and my body to the Earth to be decently buryed at the discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned;
      Item. I give & bequeath to Son, THOMAS BOWCOCK, his heirs all that Land which I bought of ST. JOHN SHROSHIE;
      Item. I give & bequeath to my Son, JAMES BOWCOCK, Two hundred & fifty acres of Land joyning to above said land & to be divided from the rest of my Land by an East & West course from my Swamp line to my Forrest line to him & his heirs;
      Item. I give & bequeath to my Son, JOHN BOWCOCK & to his heirs lawfully begotten and for want of such heir to my Son, ANTHONY BOWCOCK, and his heirs lawfully begotten a sertain part of my Land Begining on the East side of the Valley commonly called The Deep Landing and from thence a North course to the Main Road that leads to MOCHODOCK. thence up the Road til it come to Son, JAMFSes land, thence West to my Forrest Line thence down the line to the Creek & to the first mentioned begining;
      Item. I give and bequeath to my Son, ANTHONY BOWCOCK. and his heirs lawfully begotten and for want of such heir to my Son, JOHN BOWCOCK, & his heirs lawfully begotten all the remaining part of my land. I give Son, ANTHONY, my Violin, and it is my will that the Timber on my Son, ANTHONYs, land shall be in common with my Son, JOHN, for his use and it is my will that if both my Sons, JOHN and ANTHONY, should die without heir that then my Son, JAMES, shall have my Son, JOHN's part of land.
      Item. I give unto my Loving Wife, SARAH BOWCOCK, her Saddle and furniture & my saddle and furniture and my wearing apparrell and during her Widowhood I give her all the rents and profits of my Estate and liberty to sell any wind fallen Timber till my Children shall come to age; it is for their better maintainance, and it is my will that after my Debts and Legacies is paid that the remainder of my Estate be equally divided between my Loving Wife and my five Children, &c., THOMAS, JOHN, ANTHONY, JONE BOWCOCK (only four recorded. JAMES omitted)
      I lastly constitute and appoint my Loving Wife, SARAH BOWCOCK, and my good Friend, the Reverent RODDERICK McCULLOCK, Executors of this my Last Will and Testament hoping he will not refuse; As Witness my hand and seal this 12th day of March 1741/2 Signed and Sealed in the presence of us

      This Last Will and Testament of JAMES BOWCOCK, deceased, was presented into Court by SARAH his Wife and one of the Executors therein named (the Reverend RODERICK McCULLOCK the other Executor refusing to undertake the burthen of the execution thereof) who made Oath thereto and being proved by JOHN WATTS and JAMES BANK- HEAD, two of the witnesses thereto, is admitted to Record; And upon the motion of the said Executrix and her performing what is usual in such cases, Certificate is granted her for obtaining a Probate thereof in due form
