      In the name of God Amen. I WILLIAM JOHNSTON of the Parish of St. Mark in the County of Culpeper being Aged & infirm but of mind & memory as sound as usual do make and ordain this my last Will & Testament in manner following that is to say. My soul I recommend to the Mercies of Almighty God my body I committ to the Earth from whence it came therein to be decently Interred at the discretion of my surviving friends. And as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to Bless me with I dispose of the same in the manner following Imprimis I give & bequeath to my son JOHN JOHNSTON his heirs & assigns forever the land whereon I now live by the main Road so far down as to the Field which my said son has on the South side of the said Road & then leaving the Road & runing a straight course to Mr. POLLARDS line so as to include my said sons field in his part. Item the Remainder of the land & plantation whereon I live I leave to my beloved wife during her natural life and after her decease I give & bequeath the said land & Plantation to my son ROBERT JOHNSTON his heirs & assigns forever. I also give & bequeath to my said son Robert one negro boy named Joe, & one feather bed & Furniture & one cow & calf & the first colt which shall come from my black mare.
      Item give & bequeath to my Daughter MARY JOHNSTON one negro girl named Queen & one fee- ther bed & furniture.
      Item I give & bequeath to my Daughter MILDRED MANYFEE one feather Bed & furniture.
      Item All the remainder of my Estate of what kind soever I leave to my beloved wife during her natural life or widowhood and after her decease or marriage, I will & require that the some may be equally divided between my children or their legal representatives the whole number of Representatives of each, to be considered as one share ( the children of my deceased son WILLIAM included) with the exception nevertheless that my said wife shall have the disposal of a negro girl named Kate to which of my Descendants she shall think fit, and excepting also the lot of land which I hold of COLO. CHARLES CARTER which I give and bequeath to my son ROBERT after the decease of his mother.
      Item I hereby confirm the several gifts of Negroes & other things heretofore by me made to my children respectively.
      Lastly I hereby revoke & make void all former & other wills by me made and do declare this only to be my last Will & Testament. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 12th day of June in the year of Our Lord God One thousand seven hundred & sixty

      At a Court held for the County of Culpeper on Thursday the 18th day of August 1768
      This last Will and Testament of William Johnston decd was exhibited to the Court by JANE JOHNSTON Relict & Widow of the said Decedent, was proved by the Oath of John Morgan & William Thornhill two of the witnesses thereto & ordered to be recorded and on her motion Certificate is granted her for obtaining letters of administration with the Will annexed she having sworn to the same and given Bond & security according to Law.
