      Northumberland County Court 16 April 1702
      WILLIAM DAWSON on behalfe of JOHN BLENCONE A Minor Orphan of JAMES BLENCONE late of this County dec'ed haveing by his Petic'on rep[re]sented to this Court that JOHN MIDDLETON Guardian of the said Orphan by this Court admitted) lately sent away the said Orphan to the Easterne Shore under p[re]tence of giving him Learning and in the Meane time Com'itts Wast upon the said Orphans Land Cutting the Timber and Selling those &c and prayed that the said Land might be Viewed by some of the-Neighbourhoo-d & the dam'age on the said Land done Vallued etc. that the Court would take Care for the better Security of the said Orphan Land etc. as they shall think Reasonable and it being alsoe manifested to this Court that M'r SAMUELL ELLIS hath caused to be fallen downe Cutt off and rived into Pipe Staves diverse Timber Trees upon the said Orphans Land (as he affirmed) purchased of the said MIDDLETON And alsoe that the said MIDDLETON doth intend and purporte trespasse of the said Orphans timber (4-5 words faded out). the said Orphans Seat will infalliblly ruine (if not timely prevented) to the great prejudice & distruction of the Said Orphan in his said Estate And whereupon this court does Consider that such Wast & dam'age ought not upon the said Orphans Land to be done or perpetrated and doe order and appoint that the said WILLIAM DAWSON on the s'd Orphans behalfe as afores'd acquaint the said JOHN MIDDLETON Guard. as aforesaid that this Court Esteeme the said MIDDLETONs proceedings if made palpable & Evident to be injust to the said Orphan & unlawfull and that the said MIDDLETON meet at the said Orphans Plantac'on the first day of May on the said Land When it is Ordered that JOHN LAURENCE, RICHARD HEWS, JAMES GRIM and THOMAS MILLER or any two of them goe upon the said Land view the same and Vallue the dam'age (if any) susteyned being sworne by Major RODHAM KENNER, CHRISTOPHER NEALE and Capt. JOHN CRALLE or either or any of them who are all any or either of them appointed to meet therefore and to Examine and Sweare what Evidence shall be then produced either for the said MIDDLETON or the said Orphan relateing to the p[re]misses & the deposic'ons of such Evidences or Tenor of their Oaths to be returned to the next Court And 'tis Considered that the said MIDDLETON make his appeareance the next Court being the Third Wednesday in May next to Answ' the p[re]misses (he haveing notice hereof as above) and Ordered the said Viewers then Report their proceedings.
