Anne was d/o Dent Suit Jr (not Dent Suit, Sr. as I previously believed)who was son of Thomas Suit, Jr. I now believe she was sister of my Janes Suit because Anne Suit Neal's son, Daniel Neal, left SMC about the same time as my James Suit & both men went to Champaign Co OH abt the same time. James was there in 1806 when he married Amy Davis and back in SMC in 1711 when he and John D. suit made their wills in Dec. 1811 and are both found on a military roster in Champaign Co OH in Fall 1812. We need to find who Eunice was who was wife of Dent Suit, Jr. I thought she was Eunice Dent Kellet but apparently not. What church records remain for baptisms in the mid 1700's in SMC?

A researcher for this line is jrwhiskey@verizon.net and she was the one who first told me about the Neal Bible that names a woman named "Eunice" as the Ann Suit (b. 12/31/1751).

This proves Eleanor was not Dent Suit's first wife.

Until earlier this evening--I had erroneously thought "Eunice" was Eunice Dent Kellet and she still may have been that woman--but why would she have died an not acknowledged her daughter, Ann Suite?

Now, I am sure I was mistaken because Eunice Dent Kellet never married Dent Suit. That "Eunice" was widwoed from Roger/Robert Kellet of SO Co. MD in the later 1740's.

Eunice Dent Kellet had clearly not remarried before Anne Suit was born in 1751.

I thought she probably was the right woman as her birth father was named "Joseph Dent" and Benjamin Suit, s/o Dent DID name a son "Joseph Dent Suit".

I now think thaat may just be one really weird coincidence about her name being "Eunice" and her dad being "Joseph Dent"--plus the fact that her married named was "Kellet" and Benjamin Suit also naming a son Kelita/Kellity. ** I am still not totally discounting her as a possible mother of Ann Suit, b. 1751--but now, think she was most probably a d/o Joseph STEPHEN named "Lettice Ann" who m. Dent Suite.

NO proof--so need to do more digging--but an "Ann Suit' was Joseph Stephen's NOK!

Eunice Dent Kellet was probably connected to Dent Suite as a "cousin" because she herself was born as a Dent. She was d/o Joseph Dent who d. 1717 in Northampton Co VA. (Her parentage is proven by his will as well as that of her uncle, John Dashiell who d. in the 1730's in SO Co. MD.) Her mother was an unknown Dashiell and she was raised by her grandparents, Thomas and Elizabeth Dashiell of SO CO MD. She was slso related to the Peter Dent who was an official in SO Co. MD (Not the one who went to England.)

I had thought maybe due to the above--if true--that Benjamin Suit may have been her twin. I am now sure that is not correct! It seemed probable--but is not possible as Benjamin Suit's birthdate HAS TO BE PRIOR TO 1744 due to the age of Alexander Suite who was most probably his son. Also, my James Suite had to be his son and he was baptized in 1765.

(Alexander Suit's age and marriage date--proves Benjamin Suit had to be much older than I had previously believed.)

We now have much more information about Benjamin Suit than we did a few weeks ago.

I now also believe --due to recent findings- and family names and relationships that one early wife of Dent Suite, no. 1, (who was s/o Thomas Suit and "maybe" Christian Dent), was a woman named Ann STEPHEN who was probably a d/o Joseph STEPHEN who d. bet. 09 Oct - 18 Dec 1774 and his wife "Sarah" whose nee is unknown. Joseph Stephen's mother's name was "LETTICE".

I didn't have any Ann or Lettice Ann Stephen lised in my FTM as a child of Joseph Stephen, s/o Benjamin & Lettice--but she had to exist as was in his estate as NOK.

I believe Ann Stephen (Was she Lettice Ann?) was wife of Dent Suite before he married Eleanor and was mother of most of his children.

Joseph Stephen's father was ALSO named Benjamin and his mother was "Lettice".

This family may be who Benjamin Suit was named for. Probably also who Anne Suite who married Charles Neal was named for as well!

Perhaps Ann Stephen Suit was named "Lettice Ann" and Dent's wife was "LETTICE" and NOT "Eunice."

      I can't prove this--but everything fits!!

I did not have any child named Ann STEPHEN as a d/o Joseph Stephen in my records--but doesn't mean she didn't exist!

Again, Joseph Stephen's estate clearly lists a NOK as "Ann Suit."

"Lettice" looks most similar to "Eunice"-- probably more-so in older writing.

Benjamin Suit had named his son "Joseph Dent Suit" probably named after his own father and his maternal grandfather-- Joseph Stephen. (My opinion.)

I think Benjmain Suit also had a son or brother named Stephen Suit.

We see this name listed along with Benjamin Suit's name in the roster of the 1794 St. Mary's Co Militia on your website.

We do not see that name of Stephen Suit in SMC MD after that date-- but we just recently found a later man--who was an orphan in the records on the apprentice lists in MD Archives. This young man who was born after 1800 & also named Stephen Suit.

Then, a man named Ralph Suit (who was in NC prior to 1786 per findings of Pat Suit Gray) also named his son Stephen who was born about the same time as the orphan of SMC.

I do believe one of Dent's wives really was Ann Stephen.

**Something to definitely look into further!**

Also--Joseph Stephen had a sister Susanna who m. Wm.Locke, no. 1. in St. Mary's Co. MD.

They had a son, Wm. Locke, no. 2, who m. a woman named Eleanor "MNU" --and they had a daughter named Susannah Locke who married a son of Dent Suite, no. 1, named John Suit, who d. 1840 in Granville Co. NC. they were the parents of several children including the James Suite who d. 1815 in Granville Co NC after serving in the War of 1812.
