Negro Charles was born in VA of parents who were in the United State: prior to the year 1783, & have been in sd States during the whole time since that year. Sd Negro is about 12 years old, and was the property of Edward Hughes, late of Goucester County, VA, who, by his will, gave sd Negro to the afd Anne Fendall, granddaughter of sd testator, and daughter of Doctor Benjamin Fendall, CC. Charles was brought to Maryland on Mar 10, 1796. Signed Mar 20, 1796 - Anne (-1- her mark) Fendall.
      I certify that sd Negro was born in VA of parents who were in the United States before 1783, & have been therein ever since, that he was given by the wil of the late Edward Hughes of Gloucester County, VA, to his granddaughter, Anne Fendall of Maryland, that sd Negro is about 12 years of age, and was brought to Mar land on Mar 10, 1796.
