Griffith, Samuel
Welch Poole Res. 9/11/1681 - 330a's. CB2i/222 SR7366
Location: East side of The Patuxent River in the woods about 2.5 miles
from the river and one-half mile from the head of Lyon's Creek next
adjoining the west line of a parcel of land taken up by Thomas Chandler
but now in the hands of Paul Bussey. Also adjoins Thomas Haywood's
tract called St. James Fields. Note: Originally surveyed (but not patented)
by Robert Hughes. Patented on 12/2/1674, by James Thompson.
Thompson obtained a Special Warrant to resurvey (dated 3/17/1674) which
he assigned, along with the tract, to Griffith. The patent document describes
this as a Patent of Confirmation, "following a belated resurvey". The
boundaries of this tract were drawn, measured, and found by me to contain
687 acres. If there really was a "belated resurvey", it is difficult to
understand why the certified acreage is shown as only 330 acres.

Haywood, Thomas
St. James Fields 2/17/1675 - 150a's. L19/444 SR7360
Location: East side of The Patuxent River on the south side of Thomas
Smith's tract of land called The Hylands beginning at his southwest corner
tree. Also adjoins Samuel Griffith's tract called Welch Pool and Patrick
Dew's tract called Commery.
Other persons mentioned: Land rights assigned by James Thompson. Note:
This is a certification. No patent was found.

Smith, Thomas
The Highlands 2/20/1679 - 300a's. L20/354 SR7361
Location: East side of The Patuxent River in the woods on Lyons Creek
beginning at the northeast corner tree of Peter Archer's tract of land. Also
adjoins Robert Turner's tract called Turner's Place, Samuel Griffin's
land called Welch Pool and tracts belonging to John Whips and Samuel
Chew (neither found). Note: This is identified in the patent document as a
Certification of Resurvey. No precise meaning of this terminology has been
found. It was probably used to denote a resurvey of an unpatented tract. No
patent was found for the earlier version or this version.
