HAMILTON, HORATIO. Horatio Hamilton, son of Ninian Hamilton and
Margaret Lucas, was born on July 6, 1756, and was among the early
colonists in 1772 from Frederick County, Maryland who settled the
Hope community near Wachovia, North Carolina. He married (1) Lucy
Peddycoart, 1755-1800, and (2) Sarah Schneider Frey. Horatio's
sister, Mary Hamilton, kept house for their father in Randolph
County, North Carolina until he died. She then kept house for
Horatio until she died in 1821. Horatio died on March 8, 1840 and
is buried at Hope in Forsyth County, North Carolina (Ref: ALF IV-1925, and GER-119
