      Smallwood Coghill and Kezia, his wife, Adm'x of Joseph Young, vs William Cawood. FiCa - Judgment per Confession. Stay of execution 'til Mar 1.
      William Cawood, late of CC, planter, was attached to answer unto Smallwood Coghill and Kezia, his wife, administratrix of Joseph Young, decd, who died intestate as it is said, of a plea of trespass upon the case, and whereupon the afd Smallwood Coghill and Kezia, his wife, by Thomas Clark, their atty, complain that whereas the afd William Cawood, on Mar 22, 1739 at CC, made his promissory note with his own proper hand, by which note sd William promised to pay sd Joseph, in his lifetime, by Jul 1 then next ensuing, £3 for value received, but sd William, sd Joseph in his lifetime, and the sd Kezia after the death of the sd Joseph, while sole, to whom the administration of the goods, chattels, rights and credits which were of the afd Joseph at the time of his death, by Peter Dent, Gent, Deputy Commissary of Prince Georges County, on May 25, 1741, at Prince Georges County, after the death of the sd Joseph, was committed, or to the afd Smallwood Coghill or Kezia, his wife, after the espousals between them celebrated (although the sd William Cawood on Jul 2, 1741 and often afterwards at CC by sd Joseph in his lifetime, and by the afd Smallwood Coghill and Kezia, his wife, after the death of the sd Joseph, to wit, on Jul 1, 1741 at CC, has been required) has not paid, to the damage of the sd Smallwood and Kezia, £6, and thereof they bring the suit, and they bring into Court the Letters of Administration of the Deputy Commissary which the Commission of the Administration afd in form afd, testifies.
      Whereupon, into Court here in his proper person came William Middleton of CC, Gent, and became Pledge and Security for the afd William for the damages and costs in case William loses this case and does not pay. And the afd William, into Court here in his proper person comes, and nothing in bar of the action afd does he say. Ordered that the sd Smallwood Coghill and Kezia, his wife, do recover against the sd William, their damages afd by occasion of the premises, to £3, and 253 lbs of tobacco for their costs and charges.

      Feb 18, 1744/45 from Smallwood Coghill of PG, & Kezia, his wife, to Butler Stonestreet of PG, for 1000 lbs of tobacco and 7 £10 shillings sterling, and for other good considerations, a tract of land called Atheys Folly, situated in PG, bounded by the SE line of a tract of land called Battersea, a branch of Clash Cr, containing about 72 acres. Signed - Smallwood Coghill. Wit - Jno Hawkins Jr*, Luke Marbury*. Sd Kezia Coghill relinquished her right of dower to the within mentioned land. Recorded Mar 6, 1744/45.
