      Caroline Simpson, Will (Nuncupative), September 4, 1847
      Miss Caroline Simpson about two hours previous to her death directed her property to be distributed as follows and to be considered her last will and testament.
      I give the use of my interest in the land where I live to my brother Alexander Simpson in charge of my sister Jane {Simpson} and after his death I bequeath it to my nephew Edmund Smith.
      My negro man Washington, I give to my nephews Alexander Green and Thomas Green in the care of my sister Jane {Simpson}.
      I give my negro man Carter to my sister Jane {Simpson}.
      I give to my niece Eliza Dyer, 60 dollars, 25 dollars to sister Jane {Simpson} for my brother Alexander Simpson, 10 dollars to Reverend Mr. Courtnay and whatever balance may be left to be equally divided among the rest.
      I give my share in the stock to my niece Eliza Dyer.
      To niece Mary George Smith, my breastpin and ring.
      My clothes to be divided between my nieces Eliza Dyer and Mary George Smith.
      My horse I give to my nephew Edmund Smith.
      My best quilt to brother Alexander.
      My bed bedstead to my sister Jane {Simpson}.
      My sheets to be divided between my nieces Eliza Dyer and Mary George Smith.
      CC Sct; on this 4th day of September 1847 before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace for said county personally appeared Louisa Smith and Mary J{ane} Simpson and made oath that the aforegoing will or instrument of writing was the request of Caroline Simpson a few hours before her death.
      We the undersigned hereby certify that we believe that the aforegoing instrument of writing to be the intention and wish of Caroline Simpson dec'd given under our hands this 4th day of September 1847.
