Many have claimed (and still do) that Jesse Doyne, b. 1735 (the grandson) had a daughter named Jane Doyne who married Francis Xavier Stone. This couple if supposed to have had a daughter named Jane Doyne Stone who married John Thompson Yates. I don't buy it.
There was a Jane Stone of St. Mary's County, daughter of Francis Stone.
She's the one who married first, John Thompson Yates (8/8/1803) and second, Ignatius Booth (11/27/1820).
Will of John Michael Stone, SMC, 2/15/1783-8/5/1785. Cousin: Ann Williams, daughter of Hugh Williams, a negro girl named Grace. If Ann dies, the negro is then devised to Jane Stone, the daughter of Francis Stone. In case I cannot return home in two years, the negro Grace should be delivered to Hugh Williams. Exec.: Brother-in-law, Hugh Williams. Wit.: Philip Clarke, George Clarke. (St. Mary's County, Maryland Wills, 1776-1791 by Linda Reno and Joann Humphries).
To complicate matters, it appears that Jesse Doyne may have had a daughter named Jane and she also married a man named Francis Stone
7/30/1808: Deed from Robert Ratcliffe and Cordelia, his wife convey to Francis Stone and his wife, Jane for $1 and also for and in consideration that a certain Ann K. Doyne late of Charles County (deceased) did by her last will and testament bequeath to her daughter Cordelia Doyne one moiety or half of a parcel of land situate in Durham Parish, Charles County called "Manor Poynton" commonly called Pointon Manor" which said moiety or half of said parcel of land, to be laid off to Cordelia on the northernmost part of the land and the south part thereof to her daughter Jane Stone and that Cordelia should relinquish all of her right of dower in which she (Cordelia) had as dower in as widow of a certain Joseph Doyne
In 1810, there are two men named Francis Stone, in Charles County:
1810 United States Federal Census
Name: Francis Stone
County: Charles
State: Maryland
Free White Males Under 10: 2
Free White Males 26 to 44: 1
Free White Females Under 10: 1
Free White Females 26 to 44: 1
Slaves: 15
1810 United States Federal Census
Name: Francis Stone
County: Charles
State: Maryland
Free White Males Under 10: 2
Free White Males 26 to 44: 1
Free White Females Under 10: 1
Free White Females 16 to 25: 1
Numbers of Slaves: 5
The second one is probably "our man" because he's only living 3 houses away from Robert Ratcliffe. The white female age 16-25 is probably Jane, and she was born between 1785-1794. She had to be 21 to execute the deed in 1808, so if you take that into consideration along with the 1810 census data she was born in 1784-1785. That would mean she was Jane Doyne vs. Jane Barker, but I would like definitive proof. Further, if I'm correct, she didn't marry Francis Stone until after 1800, which again precludes this couple from being the parents of Jane Stone, wife of John Thompson Yates of St. Mary's County.
Two men named Francis Stone; two girls named Jane who married Francis Stone.
Different counties, different timeframes. They're not the same people.
