At the request of John Farr, the following deed was recorded on May 2, 1746-Apr 28, 1746 from Benjamin Thomas of CC, planter, to John Farr, mariner of CC, for 10 £sterling, and for divers other good causes, part of that tract of land in CC called Thomas' Maggott, & lying on the north side Potomack River, bounded by the north side of Hampton Cr, containing about 50 acres. Charles County Land Record Book L#3, 1761-1765; Page 451. Bond. I, Laidler of a CC give bond to Farr of CC, planter, in the sum of_ sterling, to be paid unto
John Farr .. dated this 23rd day of December 1763. whereas there is a dispute between the parties aforesaid relating to the property of a certain tract or part of a tract of land lying in William and Mary Parish and County aforesaid, which is claimed by sd Laidler as part of a tract called Stripp sd Farr as part of a tract called Tho , and the sd Laidler and Farr being willing and desirous that their disputes should be amicably settled, have agreed to leave it to the determination of Messieurs George Dent and Samuel Love Jr. of the County .. , Gentlemen, and if they cannot agree or do not determine the .. are to make choice of a third person or umpire to settle the same, and if the property of the land aforesaid is found to be .. then and in such case the aforesaid Dent and Love or the umpire to be .. are to set a value on the sd land, and upon the sd Laidler's paying to the sd Farr the value to be set on the land aforesaid within 10 days after the determination of the referee or umpire aforesaid, the sd Farr obliges is himself to make over the sd land to the sd Laidler by a deed. Now the condition of the above obligation is such that if the above bound John Laidler abides by the award and judgment of the aforesaid George Dent and Samuel Love Jr., arbitrators [then this bond becomes void]. On the back of the foregoing bond was thus endorsed, viz, we, George Dent and Samuel Love, arbitrators, having fully examined and considered the proofs of the contending parties, we are of the opinion that .. being part of
