Charles County, Maryland Land Records 1813-1814; Liber IB-10 {Abstract by Mike Marshall}; Page 466. At the request of Thomas Nathaniel Mudd the following Mortgage was recorded May 18, 1814
Indenture made November 20, 1813; John Bruce Thomas of CC by his bond duly executed bearing date November 20, 1813 stands bound unto Thomas Nathaniel Mudd of Prince George's County, Maryland in the sum of $900 current money with a condition thereunder written for the payment of the sum of $450 current money with legal interest before the 1st day of March next ensuing. Now this indenture witness that John Bruce Thomas in consideration of the debt owing and for the better securing the payment thereof with interest and in consideration of the further sum of $5 current money of United States has sold unto Thomas Nathaniel Mudd part of a tract called "The Ware" and being on the North West side of the main road leading from Bryan Town to Magruder's Warehouse whereon I formerly kept store and which is now occupied by Adams and Beaven and William Padgett containing about 3 ½ acres of land provided always and it is the true intent and meaning of these presents that if John Bruce Thomas shall well and truly pay unto Thomas Nathaniel Mudd the full sum of $450 current money with legal interest on or before the 1st day of March next ensuing the date of these presents then everything herein contained shall cease and be utterly null and void. Indenture made March 29, 1815; Elizabeth Padgett of Thomas in consideration of the natural love and affection which she bears unto William Padgett son and Elizabeth Padgett grandchild and also for the better maintenance support livelihood and preferment does grant and confirm unto the said William Padgett and Elizabeth Padgett their heirs and assigns in the manner and form following, to wit, to William Padgett Negro Frank (5 yrs.) and to Elizabeth Padgett Negro Isaac Duckett (2 yrs.).
