June 1760 - Edward Swann and Samuel Swann, administrators of Mercer Swann, late of Charles Co., deceased vs. James Swann of Charles Co., planter. Edward and Samuel alleged that when Mercer died [1758], James owed Mercer 1900 lbs. of crop tobacco, 524 lbs. of transfer tobacco, and 1/4/0 current money. After several continuances the case came on to be heard at the June 1760 Court, at which time James denied that he owed Mercer's estate the sums sued for. The case was tried to a jury which found that James owed Mercer 1900 lbs. of crop tobacco, 404 lbs. of transfer tobacco and 1/4/0 currency. The Court then awarded judgment to Edward and Samuel in those amounts, plus 504 lbs. of tobacco for their costs and charges.
