IN THE NAME OF GOD, Amen, September the 16th day in the year of our Lord 1740; 1 JOHN DODD of Parish of Washington in Westmoreland County being in health of body and of good and perfect sence and memory, thanks be to God, do make this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form as followeth;
Imprimis. First, I bequeath my Soul and Spirit into the hands of Almighty God by whom of his mercy through the death and merrits of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, I sett the only hope of my salvation, my body I commit to the Earth to be buried in a Chritian manner;
Item. I do give and bequeath unto my Son, JOSEPH DODD, all that Plantation in KING GEORGE County which the said JOSEPH now liveth upon to him the said JOSEPH DODD and his heirs forever; with all the land thereto belonging;
Item, I do give and bequeath unto my Son, NATHANIEL DODD, all that Plantation and parcel of land I now live on lying in Westmoreland County with the appurtenances and every part and parcel thereof to him the said NATHANIEL DODD, and his heirs forever,
Item. I do give and bequeath unto my Son, BENJAMIN DODD, one feather bed, rugg, blankets and one pair of fine sheets, one boulster and one pillow and curtains and vallens, to the said Bed, I do also give to my said Son, BENJAMIN, three pewter dishes and three pewter plates and one pewter bacon and one small iron poll;
Item. I do give and bequeath unto my Daughter, MARY McKENNEV, all my whole right title and interest of a Servant Maid which now liveth with me and was bought by me and JOHN McKENNEY, Husband to my said Daughter, at equal charge which said Servant womans name is ELIZABETH WASHINGTON.
Item I do give and bequeath unto my Son in Law Six shillings current money, WILLIAM GEARING by name;
Item. My will and desire is that all and every part of my personal Estate goods chattles and appurtenances whatsoever thereto belonging after the aforesaid legacies are delivered be equally divided amongst my Five Children hereafter named, (that is to say) my Eldest Son, JOHN DODD, my aforesaid Son, JOSEPH DODD, and my said Son, BENJAMIN DODD, and my said Daughter, MARY McKENNEY and my youngest Daughter, ELIZABETH (? UREDNE) each and every one of the said five to have and equal part as aforesaid of my said personal Estate and every part and parcel thereof, And I do make constitute and appoint my Eldest Son, JOHN DODD, my Exor, of this my said Will revoking and disannulling all former Wills by me heretofore made ratifying and declaring this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament, And in confirmation thereof have hereunto set my hand and seal the day month and year above written

KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I JAMES SHIPPIE of the County of Richmond, Planter, for the sum of two thousand pounds of tobacco to me paid or secured to be paid have sold unto JOHN DOD of the same County, Planter, his heirs and assigns forever a certain parcel of land containing about Forty acres being on the North side of Rappahannock River in the County of Richmd., being part of One hundred acres of land purchased of Mrs. ELIZABETH GARDNER, Widow, in the Province of MARYLAND, as by her Deed bearing date the Sixty day of June 1693 may more fully appear, and is devided or seperated from the residue of the land by a Branch of the SECOND SWAMP and a line of marked trees in the said Branch and so running the several courscs specified in the said Deed; To have and to hold the said Land with all appurtinances belonging in as ample manner as is granted unto me by the aforesd. bee held for this County and confess Lease Entry and Ouster, &c., Judgment to pass by default And at a Court held for the said county the 30th day ofJuly 1706, appeared JAMES STEVENSON,
one ofthe Tenants in possession in the Plaintiffs Declaration named and was admitted Defendant in the roome ofTHOMAS BONUM and prayed Lycence to imparlance till the then next Court which was granted, &c., and since that continued from Court to Court by severall continuances and adjournments to this day; And now at this day both Plaintiff and Defendant being present and all mattersfully heard, Upon the Defendant's Plea of Not Guilty, &c., a Jury being impannelled sworn and charged to say the truth in the premises, doe say upon their Oaths "Wee find for the Plaintiff damage twelve pence."
