He moved to Virginia, and served as sheriff of Amelia County in 1735. He and his first wife, Mary Booker (1711-1756), had four children: George (1740-1814), Edward, Mary Booker (1744-1797), and Rebecca. After Mary's death, Tarry remarried, and he had three children with his second wife: Gracy, Virginia, and Thomas. Samuel Tarry died on September 30, 1761.
