County Court to us directed dated the xviii th day of October last, we accordingly met at the Plantation of RICHARD CAUTHORN deced., and apprais'd all the Estate of the said Decedent which was presented to our view by the Elm, in money, in manner and form following, Vizt; To 2 oxen, To 2 cows and 3 calves, To 2 Bulls, 3 cows, 2 two year old Earlings, 6 head of sheep, 12 head of hoggs, 12 shoats, an old gray mare, a sorrel do., a colt, 1 black do, & colt; Negro man named Bristol 40; Negro woman named Betty 35; Negro boy named Jack 25; do, named Bobin 22; do named Frank 18; do girl named Jane 15; do named Sampson 10; (value set in pounds), 57 lbs. new Pewter • 16d; 16 lbs, old do. • 12d., 4 stone juggs, 13 milk pans, 8 butter pots, 3 mugs, 2 3/4 lb. of tallow • 6d., a parcel of old carpenters tools, 4 iron wedges, cutting knife & shoemakers do„ 2 pr. fire tongs & pr. of hinges, 1/2 doz. Reap hooks, 1 wirer rat trap; 2 Mouse traps, 3 glass tumblers, 9 earthen porrengers, quart mugg, candle stick & pair of cumpasses, sadle, flesh forks & skimmer & spit; 2 doz. I RICHARD CAUTHURNE of the Parish of Sittenburne in the County of Rappa in Virginia Plantr. being in health praised be given unto God for the same & knowing the uncertaintie of this Life on Earth and being desirous to settle things in order do make this my last Will & Testament in manner & forme following;
That is to say, principally I commend my Soule unto Almighty God my Creator assuredly beleiving that I shall receive full pardon & free remission of all my sins & be and by the pretious deth & merits of my blessed Saviour & Redeemer Christ Jesus & my body to the Earth for when it was taken to be buried in such decent & Christian manner as to my Executrx. hereafter named shall be thought meet & convenient; And as touching such worldly Estate as the Lord in his mercy path lent me, my will & meaning is the same shall be employed & bestowed as hereafter by this my Will is expressed, my just Debts first paid
Imprs. I give & bequeath unto my Eldest Son, RICHARD CAUTHORNE, & his heirs forever the one halfe of five hundred acres of land wch: was acknowledged by Capt. THO: GOLDMAN being part of a dividend of Two and Twenty hundred acres lying upon the head of HODGINS POCOSON
It. I give & bequeath unto my Son, THOMAS CAUTHORNE, & his heires forever the other halfe of my above sd Land
It. I will & desire that the rest of my Estate be equally devided between my Children It, I doe ordaine & appoint my deare & loveing Wife, ANN CAWTHORNE, to be the Executrx. of this my last Will &Testamt. revokeing & annulling by these presents all & every Testamt: or Testamts. Will or Wills heretofore by mee made or declared either by Word or Writing and this is to be taken only for my last Will &Testamt, & none other In Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand & affixed my scale this 18th day of March 1679,80

Deed. 22 Nov 1705. Capt Wm Tomlin and Mr Thomas Meriwether, feoffes for the Town Land in Essex - sell Richard Cawthorne of the same Co., 1/2 acres for 135 lb tobo, Whereas by Act-of Assembly 1691 appointing Town Land in eaoh river, and Hobbs Hole being nominated for a Town or port in the said Act, etc. This half acre was formerly laid off by Mr Edwin Thacker, and numbered and since surveyed by Cap't Charles Smith, Surveyor. It lies an the back-of a lot belonging to Mr Tho Meriwether "standing By the Great Street which runeth across the Town parallel unto the river".

THIS INDENTURE made the fifteenth and Sixteenth day of April in the Sixth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the second and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and thirty three Between RICHARD CORTHORN of the Parish of Southfarnham in County of Essex Planter of one part and the Honorable JOHN ROBINSON of the same Parish and County Esqr. of other part Witnesseth that for the sum of fifteen pounds Sterling to the said RICHARD CORTHORN in hand paid he doth hereby grant unto the said JOHN ROBINSON (in his actual possession now being by virtue of a Bargain and Sale for one year and by force of the Statute for transferring uses into possession) and to his heirs and assigns forever all that parcell of land containing Seventeen acres being upon the mouth of PISCATTAWAY CREEK in the Parish and County aforesaid Begining at a small white Oak at the head of BUSHES OLD SPRING BRANCH and runing then North East to a small hickory in the old field thence North East to a small red Oak by the head of the MYRTLE SWAMP and thence down the said Swamp according to the several meanders thereof to the begining the same being formerly purchased by him the said RICHARD CORTHORN of one RICHARD BUSH and granted to him by said RICHARD BUSH by Deed bearing date the Twenty ninth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Six and all houses, buildings, waters and appurtenances whatsoever belonging and all the Estate right whatsoever To Have and To Hold unto the said JOHN ROBINSON his heirs and assigns forever.
