      KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I JOHN PAINE for a valluable consideracon by me in hand received have sould & by these presents sell & make over from me my heirs a certaine quantity or parcell of land being in Estimacon (missing) acres or thereabouts the said land being part of a Pattent of Nine hundred & forty acres of land formerly by me of FRANCIS HOBBS since confirmed to me by the Governour & Coun cell bearing date the 15th of November 1653 the abovesaid land bounding upon my now seated Plantacon begining where the Creek devides it self & running along the Creek & Swamp Northwest unto a marked Gum at the head of said Swamp & soe from thence by markt trees to a markt redd Oak at the miles End & from thence alongst the outward bounds of the said Pattent into the head of a Swamp & from thence down the said Swamp & Creek side to the place where the Creek devides themselves & the first beginning of the bounds Now Know ye that 1 JOHN PAINE with the consent of my beloved Spouse MARGARET PAINE for the consideracin above written sell & assigne for ever unto THOMAS EXWYN & THOMAS WRIGHT their heirs & assignes this abovesaid land according to its bounds to all true intents & meaning herewithall bind myself my Exrs to conLrme the said land in Court according to the true intent of the law unto the said THOMAS EXWYN & THOMAS WRIGHT when they (missing) lawfully require it.       KNOW ALL MEN that I JOHN PAINE with the consent of my beloved Wife MARGARETT do by these presence for the consideracon of six thousand pounds of tobacco by me received sould & by these presents sell from me my heirs forever unto THOMAS EXWYN his heirs & assignes for ever all my right of Two hundred & thirty acres of land beginning at the upper end of the land now possessed by (missing) and tuning down the River according to the Patent & conveyance made by Mr. THOMAS HAWKINS to me the which land I do by these presents alienate from me and my heirs unto said THOMAS EXWIN his heirs and assignes binding myself to defend the said THOMAS EXWIN in the title of the said land from all persons whatseover.       TO ALL TO WHOM these presents shall come I SAMUEL MATHEWS Esqr. Governor & Capt. General! of Virga. send greeting &c. Whereas &c. Now know ye that I SAMEUL MATHEWS Esqr, do with the consent of the Councell of State according grant unto JOHN BARROW four hundred & fifty acres of land lying upon the South side of PEPETICK CREEK forty seven acres whereof begineth at a red Oak upon the Creek side extending it self into the Woods E. by N. thence N. by W. bounding upon the land of JOHN PAINE & the residue neer unto the head of the aforesaid Creek beginning where the Creek devides it self by which is made a Swamp that devides the said Land from the Land of THOMAS HAWKINS thence into the woods butting upon the land of PAYNE & Lastly the aforesaid breadth by which is made a quadrangle three hundred forty & Seaven acres of the said land being formerly granted by Pattent unto Lt. Coll. HENRY FLEET & by him deserted & granted unto the said JOHN BARROW by Order of the Governour & Coun cell dated the 6th of October last past All which land is due him for the Transportacon of Nyne persons into this Collony Thosc names are in the records menconed under this Pattent To hold &c. paying &c. Provided &c. Given at JAMES CITY under our hands this 6th of October 1656

      KNOW ALL MEN by these psents that I RICHARD MERRIMAN of the County of Lancaster:, Planter, as we! for a valuable consideracon in hand reced of JOHN PAYNE of the County of RAPPAH:, Planter, as also for divers other good causes & consideracons me the sd RICHARD MERRIMAN hereunto moving have granted unto the sd JOHN PAINE all that Plantacon whereon Mr. EDWARD DALE now liveth together with all houses edifices & buildings thereunto belonging & appertaining or together wth the same now used occupyed & enjoyed vch: premisses are scituate lying & being in the aforesd. County of La.ncastr: & were heretofore demised unto the sd EDWARD DALE by the sd JOHN PAINE To have & to hold the sd plantacon wth: all houses edifices & buildings thereunto belonging & appertaining together wth: all other the appurts. soever appertaining unto the sd JOHN PAINE his heirs & assignes forever according to the tenor & contents of the Patent thereof And by the Rents & services therein menconed to be due & payable and I the sd RICHD, MERRIMAN do for me my heirs grant wth: the sd JOHN PAINE his heirs & assignes to warrant & defend the before menconed wth: all & every its appurts, agt: all & every p:sons claiming from by or under me or my heirs and I do likewise grant t make further assurance hereof unto the sd JOHN PAINE his heirs when thereunto lawfully required And I do likewise p:mise to acknowledge this Writing in the County Court of Lancastr: provided always upon this condicon nevertheless that if the sd RICHD. Mr, JOHN CHAMPION & payable to Mr. JOHN SAFFIN or his order shal be satifyed & paid according to the tenor of the sd Bills and also if the sd MERRIMANs Bil of Exchange for 25 lbs. Sterl charged upon the aforesd. Mr. JOHN CHAMPION & payable to Capt. JOHN WHITTEY or his order shal be satisfyed & paid according to the tenor of the sd Bills and also if he the sd RICHD. MERRIMAN his Exrs. Admrs, or assignes shal we! & truly pay & deliver unto the said JOHN PAINE or his assignes at or upon the arrival of the first or second ship wch : shal imediately come from LONDON to Rappah • River the next year, Four able Servts, for their ful hire they come in for wth: all cloths bedding & other necessarys wch: they shal bring in wth: them; three of the sd Servts. to be men Servants & the other a maid Servt., and also if the sd RICHD. MERRIMAN shal upon the arrival of the first or second ship as aforesd. pay unto the sd JOHN PAINE or his assignes five pounds of goods at the first penny; That then & from thenceforth this grant writing & every article herein menconed & contained shal be utterly void frustrated & of none effect anything herein menconed contained to the contrary thereof in any wise nothwithstanding.       THIS INDENTURE made this 6th day of February 1662 Between JOHN PAINE of the County of RAPPAHANNOCKE, Planter, of the one part and RICHARD MERRYMAN of the County of Lancastr, Planter, of the other part. Witnesseth that the sd JOHN PAINE as wel for a valuable consideracon in hand paid by the sd RICHD. MERRYMAN before the ensealing & delivery hereof as also for divers other good causes & consideracons him the sd JOHN PAINE thereunto moving, path granted unto the sd RICHD. MERRYMAN all that plantation whereon the sd EDWARD DALE now liveth together with all houses & edifices & buildings thereunto belonging wch: the same now used occupyed & enjoyed wch: p:misses are scituate lying & being in the foresd. County of Lancr: and were heretofore purchased of Mr. THO: BRIES deced, To have & to hold the sd Plantacon wth: all houses edifices buildings thereunto belonging together wth: all other appurts; wt:soever unto the sd RICHD. MERRYMAN his heirs & assignes forever according to the tenor & contents of the Patent of the sd land & by the Rents & Services therein menconed to be due & payable to the sole use & behoof of the sd RICHD.
