      Will of Thomas Merry of Spotsylvania County in the Parish of St. George, dated 21 June 1754.
      To my two sons Thomas and Prettyman Merry my land in Orange County which I bought of Joyce Clowder on Terrey's Run (alias Rigar River) to be divided when my son Prittyman comes of age, Prittyman to lay it of in two parts and give my son Thos. Merry his choice.
      To my three daughters Ann Merry, Elizabeth Merry and Marry Merry my Negroes young Judy and all her children, Cloey and all her children, Jeney and all her children, Truelove and all her children, when either marrys or comes of age to receive her part and the other two parts to be kept together till one of the other daughters marrys or comes of age. If either should die then there part divided between the two other daughters.
      To my loving wife my land I now live on, also my still, riding cheare, with all my household stuff, paying all my just debts as also those two legacies of my sister's children if recovered by them.
      All the rest of my estate, my land which I bought of William Hawkins excepted, to be equally divided between my loving wife and my three sons Thos. Merry, Prittyman Merry and John Merry when my son Thos. Merry comes of age.
      To my son John Merry my land in Orange County that I bought of William Hawkins.
      My loving wife Elizabeth Merry executrix and Owen Thomas and William Smith executors.

      23 Sept. 1756. Produced in Court by Owen Thomas and William Smith. Proved by John Estes. The said will is all in the handwriting of the testator. Owen and William with John Goodall and Reuben Daniel their securities entered into bond. Eliza. Merry the widow declared she would not join the probate and would not take any legacy bequeathed thereby and did renounce all advantages.
