      Amelia Will Book 2, Page 53, April 11, 1771, Aug. 27, 1772. Will of William [X] Marshall of Raleigh Parish,Amelia County,Virginia.

      To son William Marshall 400 acres where he now lives, and also my tract in Bedford Co. called "Whipping Creek".

      Amelia Co. Order Book 17

      The last will and testament of John Marshall, deceased, was proved by the oaths of David Neal and Thomas Neal, two of the witnesses, sworn to by Robert Marshall & Abraham Marshall, the executors named, and was recorded. The executors entered bond with Joseph Osborne and John Freeley, their securities in the sum of L3000. Certificate granted for obtaining probate of this estate.

      Ordered that Joseph Osborne, William Walthall, Matthew Farley, and Stephen Neal of any three of them appraise the slaves and personal estate of John Marshall, deceased, and return their appraisement to the Court.

      Amelia Co. Order Book 18

      An indenture of apprenticeship between Forrest Farley, son of Joseph Farley, deceased, of the one part and John Marshall, carpenter of the other part was with the consent and approbation of the court executed, and acknowledged by the parties, and is recorded.

      At a Court continued and held for Amelia County the 27th day of October 1786

      Ordered that William Brown, Moses Fewquay (Fuquay) John Black, and Micajah Pruit of any three of them do appraise the slaves if any and personal estate of John Marshall, deceased, who died in Campbell County, (Virginia) and return their appraisment to the Court.

      An indenture between Alexander Marshall, William Marshall, Daniel Marshall, and Archerbald Marshall of the one part and John Marshall of the other was proved by the oaths of Henry Walthall, John Clemons and Josiah Perkinson, the witnesses thereto and is recorded.

      John Gilliam, P vs. William Walthall and John Marshall D.} In Debt-D acknowledges the P's action. Court rules that P recover from the D (blank), and the debt in the declaration and his costs. The D in mercy pleads. This judgment is to be satisfied by the payment of (blank), with lawful interest thereon from (blank) to the time of payment, and his costs.

      An indenture of bargin and sale between Richard Johnson of the one part and Robert MARSHALL and Abraham MARSHALL for the benefit of Joseph Osborne of the other part was acknowledged by Richard Johnson, a party thereto, and is recorded.

      Thomas B. Wilson, Robert MARSHALL, Thomas Morris, and Abraham MARSHALL or any three of them are ordered to view the best and most convenient way to turn the road leading through Alexander Frerel's plantation to Branch Tanner's.

      Abraham MARSHALL is appointed surveyor of the road from Courthouse to Avary's Church, with the usual hands to work on said road and keep the same in repair.

      On the motion of Robert MARSHALL and Thomas Niel (sic, Neil probably indended), executors of Roger Niel, deceased, by their attorney, judgment is granted them against Martain Chandler and Rice Newman on their joint replevin bond, passed to the said P for the sum of L15.0, together with the costs of this motion. But this judgment except as to the costs is to be satisfied by the payment of L7.11.4, with lawful interest thereon from 7 October 1786 to the time of payment, and costs.
