      1753-1756 Culpeper County, Virginia Deed Book B; [John Frederick Dorman]; Pages 8-10. 16 Aug. 1753. James Hume, orphan of William Hume, late of the Kingdom of Great Britain, deceased, to Roger Dixon, Gent., attorney at law and Clerk of the County Court of Culpeper. James Hume by the advice and consent of his mother Mrs. Sarah Hume doth bind himself an apprentice to learn the profession or calling of an attorney at law and scrivener- or the trade and mistery of merchandize, to serve seven years. He shall do no damage to his master nor waste his goods nor lend them unlawfully, nor see damage done by others without giving notice thereof; he shall not contract matrimony during the term, play at any unlawful-1 games nor frequent bad company nor disorderly places. Roger Dixon shall use his endeavours to teach or cause to be taught the apprentice the profession or calling of attorney at law and scrivener or the trade and mistery of merchandize and shall provide sufficient meat, drink, apparel, lodging and washing suitable for an apprentice.
