      ELIZABETH ACRES aged thirty eight years or thereabout being examined & sworne saith yt: upon ye Ninth of this Instant that going to ye House of THO: DAYs of Farnham Parrish in Essex County at ye request of MARY HODGE, her Neighbour, & seeing ye sd DAYs Wife lying dead upon ye bed in a most horred & barbours manner all gored in blood, this Deponent asked how his Wife came to lie in that condition who made answer he knew not; this Depont. further asked him if he & his Wife had been quarrelling, who replyed yt: he & his Wife had not had an angry word this many day; Also this Depont. further asked him if any body had been lately there, who answered no neither did he see anybody; also this Depont askt him how he hurt his eyes who replyed against ye potrac & being asked a little while after by this Depont. how he hurt himselfe, he answered ye Lord knows I know not, & this Depont. saith further yt: the sd THOMAS DAYE had then at ye same time his face & eyes most greviously brused wth: severall wounds & bruses upon his helm' and further saith not Sworne before me ye day & yeare above written

      The Deposition of MARY HODGES, aged Seaventy six yeares or thereabouts being examined & sworne saith yt: upon ye ninth of this Instant coming from ye house of Mr. THO: COVINGTONs & going to THO: DAYs of Farnham Pish, in Essex County seeing ye sd DAY setting upon ye Couch by ye fire some wt. melancholy asked him how he did, who answered he did not know his face & eyes being most previously brused, he presently after tould me yt: his Wife was dead. Your Depont. asked him how she came to die, who presently replyed she about two houres before day yt: morning. Your Depont. further asked him how his face came to be in yt: condition, who tould me he cut it against ye pottracks yt: was over ye fire; upon wch: I went to ye Woman, his Wife, as she lay on ye bed & found her dead. Your Depont. seeing her lye in a most horred & barborous maner all gored in blood upon wch: your Depont. took her feet and found her legg to be some what limber. Ye sd DAY requesting her to strip her dead body, I tould him I was not able of myselfe to perform it. She further tould him I would goe for more assistance & call of JUDITH DAVIS, his Daughter in Law, &ELIZABETH ACRES, vch: accordingly I did & yor: Depont. further saith not
