KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I ROBERT PAYNE of County of Rappa. do for and in consideration of a valuable sum of Thirteen thousand pounds of good lawfull Tobb: in Cask according to Act by me in hand received the Receipt whereof I the sd ROBERT PAYNE do hereby acknowledge theire with fully satisfield and paid and by these presents have granted sold and confirmed unto Mr. JAMES SCOTT of the aforesd. County his heirs a certain parcell or tract of land conteyning Twelve hundred acres being part of a Patent granted to my Father, ROBERT PAYNE deced, for 3141 acres dated the 27th of Aprill 1668, the said land lying and being in the Freshes of Rappa and on the South side the River adjacent to the land adjacent to the said PAYNE to JOHN HILL (Vizt.) begining at a red Oake corner tree to the sd HILL which stands by RAPPA ROAD and extending thence along the sd HILLs line N. by E. to a corner Stake to the said HILL which stands in the line of JOHN MEADERS thence along the said MEADERS his line W. N. W. to another white Oake, thence W. by S. to a Gum by a branch of PORTOBACCO CREEK, thence S. S. W. by the sd Swamp over the sd HILLs W, to a Poplar neare a small branch of GUM SWAMP, thence S. by E. to a Stake, thence S. S. E. crossing the Maine Run of ALLENS CREEKE to a Stake, thence crossing the sd Run againe N. E. to the first mentioned red Oake by the Road side. I the sd ROBERT PAYNE do hereby grant convey and make over from me my heirs unto JAMES SCOTT his heirs To have and to hold use and enjoy the same with all its rights and priviledges of all woods waters water courses and whatsoever else peaceably and quietly without any hindrance or disturbance of me the sd PAYNE my heirs &c. to make what further assurance sd JAMES SCOTT or his Councell in Law shall require in that case and do further engage myselfe to acknowledge this my Deed before the Court of Rappa. there to be when thereunto lawfully called by the sd JAMES SCOTT or his heirs he or they paying all dues or impositions which shall be charged and for further confermation I have hereunto sett my hand and Seale this 27th day of Aprill 1689

TO ALL XPIAN PEOPLE. Know yee that I ROBERT PAYNE with the consent of KATHERINE my Wife have sold and made over and do for a valuble consideration which is secured to be paid unto me sd ROBERT PAYNE do bargaine sell and firmly make over unto LEONARD CHAMBERLANE and ROBERT COLEMAN their heirs or either of them all my right and Interest that I have to a certain tract of land lying on the South of RAPPA RIVER and joining to land of JOHN COX and runing for breadth up the River the sd being granted by Patent bearing date the 26th day of May 1650 as by the records of JAMES CITTY doth appeare unto my Grandfather, EPHISDITUS LAWSON, for Nine hundred acres of land. Now know yee that I ROBERT PAYNE and KATHERINE my Wife for ourselves our heirs do for the future dissun and disdane all and every part or parcell title or titles in or unto the land above menconed enjoyning ourselves our heirs or any from or under us that LEONARD CHAMBERLANE and ROBERT COLEMAN their heirs shall peaceably enjoy and possess the above land and all the appurtenances thereunto belonging from the claime of us or any under us Also engageing myselfe with my Wife to assigne over unto sd CHAMBERLANE and COLEMAN or either of them' the Patent that was granted to my abovesaid Grand Father deced and also give them what further assurance of my right shall be thought fit but no further then our right now is and do engage my selfe and my sd Wife to acknowledge this our act and deed in the County Court of Rappa when there unto required as Witness our hands and seals this 22nd day of January 1688

LENARD CHAMBERLEIN & ROBERT COLEMAN their heirs or assignes shall enjoy & possess the abovesaid Land & all the apurtinances belonging from the claim of us or any under us allso ingadging myselfe with my said Wife to assigne over to the sd. CHAMBERLIN & ye sd. COLEMAN or either of them the Patent that was granted to my abovesd. Grand Father deceast & allso give them or either of them what further assureance of my right shall be thought fit but no farther then our right now is & doe ingadging myselfe wth: my sd.
