ROANE Gent Justices of the County Court of Essex in the sum of one hundred pounds Sterl. Sealed with our seals and dated this 21st day of May 1740
      THE CONDITION of this obligation is such that if the above bound PATIENCE GATEWOOD Admr. of all the goods chattles and credits of ANN GATEWOOD deced do make or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all the goods chattles and credits of the sd deced and so made do exhibit or cause to be exhibited in the County Court of Essex at such time as she shall be thereunto required by the sd Court and further do make a just and true account of her actings and doings therein when thereto required by the said Court and if it shall hereafter appear that any last Will and Testament was made by the sd deced & the Exr. or Exrs. named do exhibit the same in the sd Court making request to have it allowed & approved Accordingly if ye sd PATIENCE GATEWOOD being thereunto required do deliver up her Ltrs. of Admr. approbation of such Testament being first had and made in the sd Court then this obligation to be void and of non effect . . ..

      THIS INDENTURE made the 16th day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty Between WILLIAM COVINGTON JUNR. and AMEY his Wife of the County of Essex and Parish of Southfarnham of one part and FRANCIS ATTWOOD of the same County and Parrish of other part Witnesseth that said WILLIAM COVINGTON JUNR. and AMEY his Wife for sum of Eighty pounds Current money of Virginia do sell unto the said FRANCIS ATTWOOD his heirs and assigns forever three hundred and Ten acres of land being in the County and Parish aforesaid and hounded Beginning at a Maple on the North side of BESTLAND RUN at the mouth of the READY BRANCH and runing thence up the Water Course to a Maple in the branch thence South along an old marked line to a Gum in the BESTLAND SWAMP thence down the water course of the Swamp to the beginning To Have and To Hold the said three hundred and Ten acres of land unto the said FRANCIS ATTWOOD his heirs and assigns forever.       ARTICLES OF AGREEMENT made and agreed upon the 17th day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty Between FRANCIS ATTWOOD of the County of Essex and Parish of Southfarnham Gent of one part and MRS PATIENCE GATEWOOD of the same County and Parish of the other part Whereas JOHN REEVES deced by his Last Will and Testament in writing bearing date about the 2d day of October in the year 1736 reference thereunto being had will appear did devise and give to two of his Sisters (to wit) PATIENCE GATEWOOD and ANN REEVES to be equally divided between them a certain tract of land in the County and Parish aforesaid near to the UPPER CHURCH in the said Parish and on the East side of the MAIN ROAD leading to the same containing two hundred and fifty two acres of land and bounded Begining at a Corner Spanish Oak and Sassafras on the East side of a Spring Branch runing North West to the Road near the said Church thence down the said Road to a Corner Pine thence down the aforesaid Road to a white oak on the side of a hill so down to a Branch and down the said Branch to a Poplar and thence North East to where a white oak formerly stood thence North West to the first beginning Now Whereas the aforesaid FRANCIS having intermarried with the said ANN REEVES one of the said Devisees and the said FRANCIS and the aforesaid PATIENCE in an amicable manner have devided the aforesaid Two hundred and fifty two acres of land into two equal parts according to the Will of the said Testator and by a dividing line begining at the aforesaid Spanish Oak and Sassafras on the East side of a Spring Branch and runing a West course across the said Land to a Corner Pine by the aforesaid CHURCH ROAD which said line they the said FRANCIS ATTWOOD and the said PATIENCE GATEWOOD for themselves shall be the division between their respective parts of the land and the part on the South side of the said Dividing Line being one hundred and twenty six acres is agreed upon to be the part belonging to the said FRANCIS ATTWOOD including the houses and plantation where he now Dwells and that part of the said Two hundred and fifty two acres of land lying on the North side of the said Dividing Line being also one hundred and twenty six acres is likewise agreed upon to be the part belonging to the said PATIENCE GATEWOOD and the said FRANCIS ATTWOOD and PATIENCE GATEWOOD do oblige themselves their heirs each to the other in the penal Sum of one hundred pounds Sterling to stand and abide by the said Division in all things In Witness whereof the parties have set their hands and seales in presence of BENJA, WINSLOW FRS ATTWOOD

      THIS INDENTURE made the 26th day of March one thousand seven hundred and forty four Between GABRIEL JONES of the County of Essex of the one part and AUGUSTINE BOUGHAN and FRANCIS ATTWOOD of the same County of the other part; Witnesseth that whereas the said AUGUSTINE BOUGHAN and FRANCIS ATTWOOD at the request of the said GABRIEL JONES together with him in and by one obligation bearing date the Twenty first of this instant and remaining on Record in this County are and doth stand jointly and severally bound as Sureties for the Estate of the Orphan of JOHN EDMONDSON deceas'd as is by the said recited Obligation and condition thereof it doth and may appear. Now This Indenture further Witnesseth that the said GABRIEL JONES for the Indemnity of them the said AUGUSTINE BOUGHAN and FRANCIS ATTWOOD their heirs and every of them from the said recited Obligation and all sums of money therein mentioned and from all actions concerning the same hath given unto the said AUGUSTINE BOUGHAN and FRANCIS ATTWOOD their Exrs. Admrs. or assigns a certain parcel of Land in the aforesaid County of Essex and on PISCATAWAY CREEK Between the Land of the said Orphan and the Land of THOMAS EDMONDSON JR., it being all the Land that said GABRIEL JONES did purchase of JOHN PICKET with all the premisses and all the Estate right which he hath or may have; To have and to hold the said Divident of Land and other the premisses and set over unto them the sd. AUGUSTINE BOUGHAN and FRANCIS ATTWOOD their Executors and assigns (he the said GABRIEL JONES reserving to himself the free use and occupying or working on any part of the said Land) from the ensealing and delivery of these presents during and untill the said AUGUSTINE BOUGHAN and FRANCIS ATTWOOD their Executors and assigns under the consideration above mentioned and to no other use whatsoever and that he the said GABRIEL JONES now hath lawfull authority to grant the said premisses unto them according to the true meaning of these presents, Provided always that if the said GABRIEL JONES his Executors or assigns shall fully and truely discharge them from the said recited Obligation and condition above mentioned that then this Indenture to be void anything contained to the contrary thereof in anywise nothwithstanding.       THIS INDENTURE made the Sixteenth day of April in the Eighteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the second by the grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland &c., Between FRANCIS ATTWOOD of the Parish of SOUTHFARNHAM in the County of Essex of one part and JOHN TOWNLEY of the same Parrish & County of the other part; Witnesseth that the said FRANCIS ATTWOOD for Seventy five pounds currt. money of Virginia to him in hand paid hath sold unto the said JOHN TOWNLEY his heirs & assigns all that track of Land (which was purchased by WILLIAM COVINGTON JUNR. late of the Parish of SOUTHFARNHAM County of Essex afore-sd.). of THOMAS COLEMAN situate & being in the County of Essex & bounded Beginning at a Maple on the North side of the BESTLAND RUN at the mouth of REEDY BRANCH, and runing thence up the water course of the same to a Maple in the Branch, thence South along an old marked line to a Gum in the BESTLAND SWAMP, thence down the water course of the same to the begining, containing Three hundred and ten acres more or less with all the appurtenances belonging, To have and to hold to the only use & behoof of him the said JOHN TOWNLEY his heirs & assigns forever, And the sd. FRANCIS ATT-WOOD for himself his heirs doth promise that he may from time to time & at all times hereafter peaceably enjoy the premisses with the appurtenances without the molestation of him the sd. FRANCIS ATTWOOD his heirs or assigns or any other persons claiming any part thereof: In Witness whereof the parties to these presents have hereunto set their hands and seals

      THIS INDENTURE made the Nineteenth day of August in the Nineteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the second by the grace of God &c. and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty five Between FRANCIS ATTWOOD of the County of Essex Gent. of the one part and ISAAC SCANDRETT and WILLIAM DAINGERFIELD of the said County, Gent., of the other part.. Whereas the aforesaid ISAAC SCANDRETT and WILLIAM DAINGERFIELD at the special Instance and request of the said FRANCIS ATTWOOD and as his Securities by Bond bearing date the Seventeenth day of July one thousand seven hundred and Forty five became jointly & severally bound together with the said FRANCIS (in the penalty of Eight hundred pounds Sterling) to MUNGO ROY Gent. Sheriff of the said County of Essex conditioned for the said FRANCIS appearance in the General Court of this Colony the first day of the next Court to answer JONATHAN FORWAD of LONDON, Merchant, of a plea of Trespass upon the Case, damage three hundred & fifty pounds Sterling; also to answer the sd. FORWARD of a plea of Trespass upon the Case, damage Fifty pounds sterling; as by the said Bond and condition relation being thereunto had may more fully appear. Now this Indenture Witnesseth that the said FRANCIS ATTWOOD for the Bond entered into by the said ISAAC SCANDRETT and WILLIAM DAINGERFIELD as his Sureties as above mentioned, and for Endemnifying the said ISAAC SCANDRETT and WILLIAM DAINGERFIELD and their Estates, And also in consideration of the sum of Five shillings paid hath granted and sold unto the said ISAAC SCANDRETT & WILLIAM DAINGERFIELD their heirs and assigns forever, seven Negroe slaves, that is to say, two men named Oxford & Polypus, two women named Violet & Barbary, two boys Somerset & Tom, one girle nam'd Patty; Also the several Stocks of Cattle, horses, hogs, sheep, houshold goods and other things contained in the Shedule to these presents annexed; To have and to hold upon this Condition Nevertheless that if the said FRANCIS ATTWOOD his heirs shall appear at the next General Court on the first day of the Court and thereby keep harmless the said ISAAC SCANDRETT & WILLIAM DAINGERFIELD and heirs and all their respective lands & goods and chattles from all losses, that then and from thenceforth sahll sustain or be put to for or by reason of the aforesd. Bond without Fraud or Covin that then and from thence forth everything herein contained shall be utterly void: anything herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding, And the said FRANCIS ATTWOOD for himself his heirs do grant with the said ISAAC SCANDRETT and WILLIAM DAINGERFIELD their heirs that he will appear at the Genl. Court on the first day of the Court and answer to the pleas of JONATHAN FORWARD aforementioned and thereby indemnify the said Sureties and that at all times until default shall be made in performance may peaceably and quietly possess dispose off or so much of the said slaves Stocks goods &c. as will be of value sufficient to repay the said ISAAC SCANDRETT & WILLIAM DAINGERFIELD their heirs &c. all costs of damages which they may suffer by means of their becoming Sureties for the said FRANCIS ATTWOOD, In Witness whereof the said FRANCIS ATTWOOD hath hereunto sett his hand and seal
