      1775-1803 British Mercantile Claims
Claims of McCall, Smellie & Company [P. 92] Richard Golding, Orange. £12.3.10-1/2. He removed
to South Carolina at the commencement of the Revolution. At the time he was worth nothing. He was a
single man and lived with his father, was never settled and had not acquired property of any kind. It is believed that he could only have obtained credit under the expectation that his father, who was in tolerable good circumstances, would pay the debt as his own property would not have justified any person to have trusted him for a farthing.
